New Orleans YOUth Leadership Fellowship Overview The Afterschool Partnership is committed to helping New Orleans’ youth develop the leadership skills necessary to become engage citizens and participate in city and state government decisionmaking. The New Orleans Youth Leadership Fellowship is a six-month program for 20 youth committed to answering the question, “How do we create a Youth-Friendly New Orleans?” All youth ages 16-21, who are passionate about finding real solutions on how to create a youth voice in our city and engage young people in government-decision making, are encouraged to apply. Fellows will participate in 10 Saturday workshops to learn critical thinking, writing, public speaking, and leadership development skills, as well as policy and advocacy tools. All Fellows will work in teams to design a final presentation, and have opportunities to speak with city, state and community leaders. Fellows will receive a stipend for their participation in the program; public transportation scholarships available.
Sessions (Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm)
Fall Sessions: Sept. 25, Oct. 9, Oct. 23, Nov. 6, Nov. 13, and Dec. 4 Spring Sessions: Jan. 8, Jan. 22, Feb. 5, and Feb. 19 ** Participants must be able to attend all sessions; any who will miss more than 2 sessions will not be eligible for the stipend.
The New Orleans Youth Fellowship is made possible through a generous gift from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
