Orientations due south to maximize the sunlight and heat gain to keep the internal temperatures at +150 C even in the winters when the outside temperature is -20 C as demonstrated at SECMOL High thermal mass walls made of rammed earth for passive heating and trombe walls. Roofs used as green house irrigated by Ice Stupas The university will be 100% pedestrianised Traditional motives and elements play an essential role in creating identity

PROJECT SUMMARY

Sustainability
Natural Daylighting The high volume roof provides shading from harsh direct light, but is high enough for large amounts of diffused light to enter the space, reducing the need for artificial lighting.
Renewable Energy
The large roof area provides space for the 1500m² solar array. The solar panels are capable of generating 200 MWh per year, meaning the building will not consume any electricity that it doesn’t generate itself throughout the year on average. Sunlight hours 12 11 10 9 8 7

Sustainable drainage
Rainwater Harvesting Rainwater is harvested on the large roof area to provide water for cleaning of the animal enclosures. The three 40m³ rain towers collect enough to supply 20m³ of water per day for cleaning
WEBEARTH
Excess rainwater flows are reduced on site and infiltration and natural treatment methods are encouraged through the use of bioswales to channel water to retention beds and permeable pavements at car parking areas.

Perimeter zones have high levels of natural daylight – Combine with daylight sensor to turn off perimeter luminaires when not required Daylight model to show perimeter zones where lights can be turned off Office Daylight sensors can be placed in the perimeter areas to optimise use of natural lighting. In perimeter areas when the illumination is 500lux and above, the artificial lighting can be switched off with the help of the sensors
Artificial lights needed after 5pm at 3mt from window Artificial lights needed in early morning and late afternoon Artificial lights needed through the day
Draw Lighting zones < 100m2
In case of open plan offices, as the occupancy keeps changing its necessary to provide lighting zones for flexible light control. A lighting zone plan enables greater flexibility for light switching in the occupied areas and hence contributes to energy efficiency.
