ROCKWELL FONT DESIGN by Monotype Foundry’s inhouse design studio
SUPERVISED by Frank Hinman Pierpont Rockwell is a serif typeface belonging to the classification slab serif, or Egyptian, where the serifs are unbracketed and similar in weight to the horizontal strokes of the letters. Because of its monoweighted stroke, Rockwell is used primarily for display rather than lengthy bodies of text. 11

PMN CAECILIA FONT DESIGN by Pieter Mathias Noorzij
RELEASED The year of 1991 Peter Matthias Noordzij was studying at Koninklijke Academie vor Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague, Netherlands in 1983 when he created the first sketches of what eventually became the PMN Caecilia design. Designed to represent the writing of a broad-nibbed pen, PMN Caecilia has curved, angled, and vertical strokes. When most people write, the direction and pressure of the pen change, but the angle of the pen in relation to the line usually does not. This idea was built in to the PMN Caecilia design. 13

Rockwell features a nearly uniform stroke width such as Museo Slab and compared to the varied stroke width of Caecilia.
2
Rockwell’s counter is circular such as the Museo’s and the Caecilia’s counter is oval shaped.
3
Rockwell has a slightly detached tail that terminates to a solid angled stroke. Caecilia has a tapered tail that extends for below the baseline. Museo’s tail is a stroke. 19

5

6
Rockwell’s serifs are blocky and have no breaking such as the Caecilia’s and Museo’s.

The letter “s” is one of the letters different in the three typefaces. The Rockwell’s serif is block-shaped, Caecilia has a more open “s” that terminates in a solid serif and Museo makes the difference in slab serifs solid type, because of is curved shape.

Comparing the three g’s we see that Caecilia’s g is completely differente from the others, because has two eyes and the others have only one. Rockwell’s and Museo’s on the other hand are very similar. Rockwell’s serif is block-shaped and Museo’s serif is curve.
GGG X
Rockwell and Museo have a round shape and Caecilia has a rect shape.

Caecilia’s and Museo’s bowl is very similar and the counter is like a gout. Rockwell’s and Caecilia’s serif is blockshaped and Museo’s makes a curve. The arc of stem is differente in the three, but Caecilia’s has a solid serif that goes down.
In the A, Rockwell makes a difference with a serif in the top. The serif is higher in Rockwell type and lower in Caecilia’s. They all have block-shaped serif and no contrast in stroke widths. 29

X
The three typefaces can be distinguished by the letter “R”. Rockwell has a solid letter with block-shaped serif. Caecilia and Museo are similar in the leg because of the curve but they have different weights and that’s what makes them different.
