01 the school of visionary architecture / 2018 ‘technology is the answer, but what was the question?’ -Cedric Price The project is about establishing the School of Visionary Architecture for Part 2 and Part 3 students. The design project interrogates and speculates what visionary architecture could become in the future. As the current British system of education is outdated and architects have become too close to the commercial world, we should instead be proposing visionary ideas for the future and learn from past movements including the Modernists, Metabolisms and Deconstructionists, as these movements were capable of influencing society. It should be more open to stimulate our creativity, make it more flexible and to make us to think outside of the box. The project is a controversial manifesto as it is (literally) attached to the conservative Georgian building Carlton House Terrace - to show the relationship between the education of the old system and what the proposal is. The concept is very high-tech as the programme delivers a futuristic approach with innovative devices, allowing the students to create a new, virtual world. Integrating technology into the building will allow a connection between the physical aspect of our digital life. The project aims not only to speculate future architecture, but to be a catalyst for society becoming more and more connected to our direct built environment.

visionary architecture Visionary architecture has always been a field of misunderstanding and controversy, often giving a misleading impression of something ‘out of this world’. Innovations in architecture are undeniable, as such work for is created for many reasons - some to inject noise into the system (to quote Archigram), some for political ends, some to pursue their own idiosyncratic languages and some with pedagogical aims. Another reason is the constant development, which enables us thinking ahead of the future.

original scale 1:100 The project is based on collaboration between modules and different areas of research. Therefore every project starts with the information received on USB sticks, which then are transported to the Visionary Society unit using a drone. Students analyse the feedback from their Visionary app. They pass it to the Visionary Technology unit, where students try to find the right material which could be used in the project. The information is further passed to debate the project considering political issues, speculating about the future as they raise the questions starting with ‘what if’ - the more creative answer the better. The USB stick goes to the Visionary Design unit, where students design the spaces based on the information they received. The USB stick with the project is passed to Cycle 3, where students review it and with the knowledge of regulations and law in architecture, they redesign the proposal. legend cycle 2 1 visionary society unit 2 visionary technologies unit 3 visionary politics + speculations unit 4 visionary design unit cycle 3 11 visionary design unit 12 visionary regulations unit shared units 5 storage 6 coffee station 7 lounge 8 gaming room 9 vr/ar learning room 10 helmet station 13 sleeping room 14 loft for birds

mapping the virtual projects and where they are exhibited Students of both Cycle 2 and 3 exhibit their work through and augumented reality (AR) game app for iOS and Android devices. It uses GPS to locate and experience the possibilities of the visionary world, which is yet to be built in the future, or just to remain a fantasy. The project appears as if they are in the player’s real-world location.

tree valley / sketch on a napkin for the new london architecture magazine’s competition ’40 best ideas for london’ The study shows how reforestation could store about 2/3 of the total carbon released into the atmosphere as a result of human activity since the Industrial Revolution. The idea evokes the opportunities that trees could bring to the urban landscape by not only improving the local (and global) environment but exploring how tree-planting could form an extraordinary new streetscape for our city. Referencing the popular game Monument Valley, London is visualised as an exploration through a complex and surreal world where forest and architecture mesh into one.
