EQAPOL Directory SAB MEETING September 12-13, 2018
The External Quality Assurance Program Oversight Laboratory (EQAPOL) is a National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)-Division of AIDS (DAIDS) funded resource located at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute’s (DHVI) Immunology and Virology Quality Assessment Center (IVQAC) to support the development, implementation and oversight of external quality assurance programs that monitor laboratories involved in HIV/AIDS research and vaccine trials around the world. Through this program, we have four EQA efforts and an HIV diversity panel with over 322 unique isolates.

EQAPOL EQA PROGRAMS For each EQA program, sites participate in two External Proficiencies (EP) per year. At the conclusion of each EP, sites receive a site-specific report with a proficiency score and rating. Sites are offered remediation to improve performance.
EQAPOL Flow Cytometry Oversight Laboratory
Jennifer Enzor, Kent Weinhold, Janet Staats, Preksha Patel, Twan Weaver The EQAPOL Flow Cytometry EQA Program assesses the proficiency of sites performing intracellular cytokine staining (ICS) protocols. Sites run an ICS assay using EQAPOL-provided staining and stimulation lyoplates, PBMCs, and staining and instrument set-up reagents. We have recently added a component for sites to run their own in-house ICS assay.
4
EQA PROGRAMS EQAPOL ELISpot Oversight Laboratory
Guido Ferrari, Mark Berrong The EQAPOL ELISpot EQA Program assesses the proficiency of sites at performing an interferon-y (IFN-y) ELISpot assay. Sites run their own in-house ELISpot assay, as well as an EQAPOL-provided assay using EQAPOL-provided PBMCs and peptides.
5
EQA PROGRAMS EQAPOL Luminex Oversight Laboratory
Juyoung Shin, James Devore, Greg Sempowski, Heather Lynch The EQAPOL Luminex Proficiency Program was initiated as a collaboration between NIAID and the Center Immunotherapy Consortium (CIC). Participating sites run an EQAPOL-provided Luminex assay testing EQAPOL-provided cytokine-spiked serum samples. We have recently added a component for sites to run their own in-house Luminex assay.
6
EQA PROGRAMS Limiting Antigen Avidity (LAg) Oversight Laboratory
JoAnn Yates, Nelly Gefter, Mars Stone, Mike Busch, Sonia Bakkour, Dylan Hampton, and Sheila Keating
The EQAPOL LAg Avidity Incidence Assay EQA program is the result of a collaboration between EQAPOL, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Blood Systems Research Institute (BSRI). Participant sites are provided with human plasma samples for testing on site-provided LAg kits.
7
HIV Diversity and Characterization Program
Yue Chen, Feng Gao, Bhavna Hora The current EQAPOL Viral Diversity panel includes over 335 viral isolates representing 6 subtypes (A, B, C, D, F, G), 2 sub-subtypes (F1, F2), 11 circulating recombinant forms (CRFs) (01, 02, 04, 11, 14, 22, 24, 47, 59, 70), 79 unique recombinant forms (URFs), 3 HIV-2, 1 group N, 1 group P, and 5 group O viruses from 37 countries.
