Since September 2021, I’ve been working at C+S Architects, an office based in Treviso, in Italy. The office works internationally in the different fields of architecture: urban design and the design of the landscape, architectural design, interior design both for the private and the public sectors. I’ve been working on several projects and important aspects of the architecture such as the stability, the restauration, the environment... The vision within this office is large and touches many different scales in term of projects: residential, small houses, restauration, renovation, masterplans, public facilities... Most of the phases I’m working on are about the concept or competitions. I’m happy to say that it has been a great experience abroad as a junior architect to understand the challanges of the world.

I worked at Arch & Teco for 10 months, an office based in Ghent, in Belgium. This architecture office was founded in 1976, which ever since has been evolving and bringing creativity, technical and management expertise together. I worked on several projects and important aspects of the architecture such as the stability, the restauration, the environment... The vision within this office is large and touches many different scales in term of projects: residential, small houses, restauration, renovation, masterplans, public facilities... It was a great first experience as a junior architect to understand how the world of architecture works.

KUL - THESIS: Adaptive architecture towards the seasonal flooding Nepal 2020
The aim of this Master Dissertation Project is to develop a design strategy towards the most important resource in Nepal: the water. A deep analysis was realized in understanding the rivers and how people interact with them, more particularly when the floods appear during the monsoon period. This was made for two main rivers in Nepal: the Kali Gandaki river and the Koshi river. Learning this, the goal to achieve was clear: facing the water issues during and after the monsoon period. It appears that in Nepal, there isn’t any solution yet to deal with the floods or at least, only some temporary fixes. The design strategy will develop two architectural solutions in Gardi and Jugal, places I visited, including a diversion system with a dam and a rainwater harvesting system. These water systems form a unique building, which has to be more considered as landmark for both of the villages, and in the future, might also make an impact on different places in Nepal.

The design strategy to deal with the water develops two elements: a rainwater harvesting system, which collects the water for agriculture, and a diversion structure, the gabion walls, that protects the building from the coming floodings. I developed two functions, a greenhouse and an animal stable, that reflect the strong link to the agriculture, which is the most important connection to this village. Using local materials like sand to create rammed concrete, bamboo or the thatch roof technique, was important to achieve a sustainable strategy. The greenhouse, in the southern part of the building, is covered by a PVC corrugated roof to ensure a continuous light inside. This space is closed around by some plastic sheets. The animal stable, in the northern part of the building is covered by a traditional thatch roof, allowing a little bit of rain to go through. In the contrary of the greenhouse, this space isn’t closed by any panel or sheet, allowing a good ventilation.

Jugal In Jugal, during the monsoon, the school is flooded because of the water rise from the river passing nearby. The proposed building will help to secure this school from the future floods but also provide water throughout the rest of the year. This is why the design strategy towards the water uses different features such as a rainwater harvesting system, which collects the water for drinking or cooking, a pond and a diversion structure, which protects the building from the coming floodings. The main function of the building is a kitchen but also an easy access for drinking with the rainwater tank next to it.The collected water will also be used for the biogas system. Indeed, the lady who cooks the lunch for the children has to do it further than the school itself, which isn’t very convenient. I used here the local stones for the walls, paths and rainwater tank but also local slates for the roof.
KUL - DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION PROJECT Colombo (Sri Lanka), Summer 2018
I had the opportunity to go to Sri Lanka for 6 weeks thanks to the KuLeuven that has different parternships with some countries around the world. The aim here was to conduct an in-situ research in Slave Island, a district in Colombo, by two KUL students and the Master Urban Design students of the University of Moratuwa, with the addition of a following joined Summer School (10 days) based on the field previously studied, and including the participation of other fourtheen KUL students and the local communities. We realized a deep analysis of the identified area, with the collaboration of the National Housing Development Authority -NHDA- of Colombo; this research has been switching from an architectural to an urban scale, with the aim to cover all of the relevant aspects that will later be used to firstly conduct the joined Workshop and, secondly, in the case of the UoM students, to design an urban intervention for the area.

Within the workshop, we worked as a group helped by the Sri Lankan students during almost ten days to develop a future design. The first step was the drawing of a large section that brought us to analyse this particular area, which is at the moment private and industrial.

Keeping these aspects in mind, we developed some ideas : - creating a flexible residential area inside the exisiting buildings for temporary residents (private) - creating a workspace for commercial - business use (public) - creating a sports area - creating a market space - emphasizing the development of the green belt around the Beira Lake

We re-inteprated and proposed a transition of the exisiting situation into future urban living conditions, while integrating the qualities of the current conditions. Our goal was also to bring more life and activities in this area but also to make a smooth transition from the private spaces to the public ones.

INTERNSHIP - Wim Goes Architectuur Ghent (Belgium), 2019 https://wimgoesarchitectuur.be/ While studying my Master in Ghent, I took the initiative to look for an internship in architecture. I gained a lot of experience during the 5 months that I worked there. I went several times on different building sites to see the work under development, I took part in a competition with another office from Antwerp focusing on the restoration of a castle in Ghent (Gravensteen). Most of the work and research there was developped through making models by hand. Wim Goes is also known for designing interio furnitures and, with my colleagues at the time, we took part in placing them for exhibitions in a gallery or in a private house.
KUL - MICROSPHERES
Ouled Merzoug (Morroco), 2018 This project aimed to install a wastewater treatment sytem for the village of Ouled Merzoug, which purifies the water for irrigation while creating a new microclimate with green spaces. These spaces generate different micro-atmospheres, which are related to the social and economical activities of the village. The sanitation network consits of a main sewage pipeline which collects grey and blackwater from the houses, leading to septic tanks for primary treatment and continuing to constructed wetlands. There, the water is purified in a natural process by plants. The result is water ready to be used to feed trees and plants of different kinds with drip irrigation method. With this system, the green from the riverbed spreads into the village and can be a direct benefit for the villagers.
KUL - AN INTEGRATED RECYPARK IN THE CITY Brussels (Belgium), 2019
As a starting point, the design focus was made on the traffic and the buildings through a group research, which topic was to analyse the in-between spaces in the area of Place Liedts, in Brussels. Two aspects mainly triggered me after this first research: the amount of waste that was still present on the streets after each pick-up, and the traffic situation. The objective of this project is to use both of these problematic situations: creating a recycling space on Place Liedts itself and improving the traffic situation with the future metro station. Raising a level of awarness about the waste among the diverse populations living there is an important step while keeping in mind the public life that should be still present on the Place Liedts. I believe that engaging everyone such as children, women, homeless people, workers or unemployed people, immigrants, is probably one of the main keys to make this project successful.

UCL - WORKSHOP Curtisoara (Romania), Summer 2016 During my Bachelor studies, I had the opportunity to follow a two weeks workshop in Romania. We worked in a village called Curtisoara that was located nearby the Carpates mountain and close by a bigger town, Targu Jiu (10 kms). I had a great experience there: meeting new people, working with different materials like wood, clay, lime... We mainly worked in small teams to develop the different projects, which gave us the chance to discover the architecture in a more practical way.
UCL - COLLECTIVE HOUSING No context, 2017 During this third year, we were asked to develop a collective housing with no context but a program that respects: - 2 studios (45 m2) - 2 dwellings (65 m2) - 6 dwellings (85 m2) - 1 dwelling (105 m2) - 1 dwelling (125 m2) The main concept is to have different levels for the day and night rooms in order to create an interval and a dynamic in each building. In each building some passages are placed to give an easy and pleasant circulation. The plan is organized around a central opening completed by a skylight. In this part, the staircases are closed with translucent windows that bring light in as well as a view to the outside. Therefore, the building is separated in two parts by that passage: one corresponded to the day spaces (east side), the other one to the night spaces (west side). Each appartement has its own terrace.
UCL - COHABITATION Braine l’Alleud (Belgium), 2016 The program in this project was to develop a house where two family units could live together while keeping their own privacy. My ambition was to create different shared spaces where common activities can take place. At first, this was a group work: we analyzed the site, established the basic plans and elevations so we could all work on our own idea. This parcel is only five meters large but 24 meters long. The house is shared by one family with two adults and their child, and by one student with his/her own studio. As common spaces I developed a dining room, a kitchen and a garden. All of them are directly accessible from the entrance.

UCL - TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER Rebecq (Belgium), 2015 The aim of this project was to design an information center for any tourist visiting this town. The proposed area was interesting because of its slope, smallness and proximity to the Senne, which is the river going through Rebecq. I conceived my project in a way that we can keep the view we had from the street to the Senne. To do so, the building is raised up with some pillars under it, allowing anyone to get directly to the water. A staircase gives access to the entrance from under the building itself. The view on the first or second floor is either oriented to the landscape or to the water.
UCA - SELECTED WORKS Canterbury (England), 2013 - 2014 I spent one year in Canterbury, at the UCA, investigating different topics related to art and design, leading to identify our personal interests and strenghts as a designer. I developped my own way through the course, which resulted in a final exhibition at the end of the year. Each project was supported by a sketchbook with all of our researches, drawings, thoughts, ideas... It was such a rewarding year: I learned a lot about art, architecture, drawing, painting, making models, using photoshop, sewing with textile...
