Introduction T

he 30th Australian Turfgrass Conference and Trade Exhibition is once again focusing on giving delegates a constructive experience at the right price. Valuable, effective education, useful resources, important networking opportunities and value for money are all key components of the 2014 event. Successfully trialled in 2013 and being retained in 2014 is the staging of the Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon thus allowing an extra day for education. Two day long workshops will again be offered on Monday 23rd for any fully registered delegate.

The key changes to the 2014 conference are that the President’s Dinner and Awards Ceremony will now be held as a welcome event on Monday evening, with an informal farewell function for all delegates and trade reps being staged on Thursday evening. Friday will see the turf tour coupled with an afternoon golf scramble event where attendees can choose to only attend the morning inspection or stay on for lunch and golf.

The identification and management of agronomic stresses are the key to successful golf and sportsturf managment. Turfgrasses grow within an optimum range of conditions whether it is temperature, light or moisture. Outside the optimum range plant stress occurs.

Political behaviour is alive and well in golf clubs, schools and councils. This session will help you to recognise and manage politics more effectively, provide you with tips and suggestions to improve perfomance and introduce you to the four different politcal animals that exist in a workplace.

This day long workshop will look at the impact of environmental stress on turfgrass growth and how we can manage the turf during these stress periods

Dr. Karl Danneberger is Professor of Turfgrass Science in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at the Ohio State University. He received his B.S. degree in Agronomy from Purdue University, his M.S. degree in Horticulture from the University of Illinois and Ph.D. degree in Plant Pathology from Michigan State University.

The Academy runs a wide range of performance improvement workshops globally, in addition to providing critical information for business leaders in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

His research focus at The Ohio State University is in the area of turfgrass ecology and physiology, and in recent times he has investigated how turfgrass plants respond to low light conditions. During his tenure he has developed mathematical models that predict the occurrence of turfgrass diseases on a global scale and used molecular tools to measure population shifts in turfgrass communities and for cultivar identification. Stephen Newport Staging the Cricket World Cup This talk will give delegates an overview of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, looking at the logistics and event planning that is going into the event as well as its legacy for Cricket across Australia and New Zealand. Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Newport is responsible for the operational management and delivery of everything from the actual sporting competition and venue to accommodation and transport so is well placed to give us an insight into this international event. University of Melbourne Biodiversity Study Dr’s Livesley, Threlfall and Stork will present the final report on the three year, joint research project aimed at understanding the biodiversity conservation and carbon sequestration provided by urban green spaces and golf courses. This presentation will be followed on Wednesday morning by a workshop that will discuss practical, cost effective ways to improve habitats on golf courses. functions AGCSA Golf Championship The Toro AGCSA Golf Championships will this year be played on Sunday 22 June. The format for this event will see a stroke competition played at Sanctuary Cove Golf Club, with a stableford competition being staged at Hope Island Golf Club. At the conclusion of the round at Sanctuary Cove, players will be transported to Hope Island for dinner. The golf is open to all practicing “turfies” and the competition you play in will be determined by a handicap ballot. Eligibility - Golf Championship Stroke Gross - AGCSA Superintendent members with a handicap of 12 or less. Stoke Nett – Superintendents with a handicap greater than 12 and all low handicap turf practitioners (including assistants, curators, groundstaff, greenkeepers and turf technicians)

Stableford – All turf practitioners with a handicap greater than 12 (including superintendents, assistants, curators, groundstaff, greenkeepers and turf technicians). To be eligible to win in any of the categories, players must supply an official handicap and golf link number. he 2014 Trade Exhibition will also be staged concurrently within Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Equipment, products and services covering all aspects of the turf industry will be on display, with experts on hand to discuss all manner of issues and answer any questions you may have. Entering through the AGCSA stand, visitors will be able to meet association board and staff members, enquire about members benefits and enter the lucky door prize competition.

The Exhibition is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm on Wednesday 25 June and 9.00-2.00pm on Thursday 26 June. Entry is free, so we encourage all ground maintenance staff and depot crews to visit, browse and make use of the resources available. There will be an onsite cafĂŠ within the exhibition for visitors to purchase food and beverages, with Toro Australia also sponsoring a cart for complimentary coffees. Visitors are encouraged to pre-register through the AGCSA website to avoid delays at the door.
