PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Thank you for taking the time to read the 2022 AGC San Diego Chapter Annual Report. This publication is an overview of the activities and projects the Association undertakes each year and includes a few highlights from 2020 and 2021 as well. It has been an honor to serve as the 2022 AGC San Diego Chapter President. It was a busy and fulfilling year. I appreciate the many volunteers who gave their valuable time to support our region’s construction industry. Let me share a few highlights from a successful 2022: • Largest campaign cycle in AGC San Diego history • Negotiated eight master labor agreements • Kicked-off strategic planning • Over 15 in-person AGC Member events allowed the members to build relationships and have some fun, too! It was great to serve alongside the best leaders of our industry. I will continue to support these ongoing AGC efforts as Past President, and I have no doubt that our Association’s incoming leadership will continue the history of excellence in 2023 and beyond. Thank you for the honor of serving as your 2022 AGC San Diego Chapter President.

2022 HIGHLIGHTS
Supporting and advocating for our members is always a priority but added emphasis was taken during the 2022 campaign cycle. A full slate of in-person membership events provided plenty of social and networking opportunities for members.
LARGEST CAMPAIGN CYCLE IN AGC HISTORY The AGC San Diego PAC was busy interviewing candidates and reviewing local measures in 2022 to provide support for key races and measures. The support was successful as 30 of the 39 endorsed candidates won their races. The PAC raised and spent a historic $1.5 million to defeat Measure D in the City of San Diego.
NEGOTIATED EIGHT MASTER LABOR AGREEMENTS Eight Master Labor Agreements were up for renewal in 2022. Many meetings and discussions were had with AGC San Diego contractors to decide pivotal points for each agreement. After dedicated work by AGC staff and contractors, the eight master labor agreements were signed.
ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS • ENGAGED WITH AN ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP THROUGHOUT THE YEAR • KICKED OFF STRATEGIC PLANNING • USACE CQM-C TRAINING CERTIFIED 207 MORE PARTICIPANTS THAN 2021 • MEMBERS PARTICIPATED IN 10 “GIVING BACK” EFFORTS

2021 HIGHLIGHTS
Providing support and making sure the industry remained safe and open during 2021 was first and foremost as COVID-19 precautions were still in effect. The chapter continued supporting the membership and finished the construction of the new building in Lakeside, a long-standing goal.
CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AGC San Diego was awarded “Chapter of the Year” at the AGC of America convention in September 2021! This award was the culmination of the chapter’s efforts to keep construction open and safely working during the pandemic, through partnerships, advocacy, and providing timely resources to members.
BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
8
In November 2020, construction was completed on the 44,000 square-foot AGC East County Headquarters and Apprenticeship Training Center in Lakeside, CA. It accommodates office space for the AGC San Diego Chapter and Apprenticeship administration staff, nine state-of-the-art training rooms, and over 16,000 sq. ft of warehouse/ shop training space. After COVID restrictions lifted, the members celebrated the occasion with a ribbon cutting and open house in September 2021.
DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADE
In June 2021, AGC San Diego launched an updated website that integrates with an Association Management System (AMS) to provide staff a database management system and additional tools to support the membership.
The new website works on all platforms and features a new event/class registration system. Additional features will be rolled out to members. AGC San Diego | ANNUAL REPORT 2022 | The VOICE of Construction
2020 HIGHLIGHTS
Supporting and advocating for our members was a major focus of 2020 efforts by AGC San Diego in a year that was dominated by the COVID pandemic.
PROTECTING THE INDUSTRY
In 2020, AGC San Diego worked to keep construction “essential” during the early days of COVID-19. The chapter established partnerships with local associations, continued advocacy efforts, and leveraged support from AGC of America to keep construction open and safely working during the pandemic. AGC San Diego provided members with timely resources and updates on critical changes to local and state policies.
AGC San Diego partnered with local associations in 2020 to release our COVID-19 Safety Plan. This document was updated regularly and the latest version is available on our website.
ESTABLISHING LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS In June 2020, the National Black Contractors Association (NBCA) and the Associated General Contractors of America, San Diego Chapter (AGC), signed a first-of-its-kind Memorandum of Agreement designed to expand and strengthen training programs within both organizations and effect systemic change within the construction industry locally. This MOA unites the two Associations around a common goal - to build the region’s infrastructure with a workforce that is locally hired, locally trained, and representative of San Diego’s diverse community.
