Registrations, Payments and Cancellations

REGISTER FOR ALL CLASSES ONLINE AT WWW.AGCSD.ORG

The event calendar features three views: a monthly calendar, a weekly calendar, and a list by month view. The calendar can be searched by date, or you can choose the event type under the “Filter by Event Type” to see just AGC Events or our Safety Training classes. To receive member pricing on our classes, please use the “log in” option at the top of the class registration page to login into the Member Portal.

How do I get access to the Member Portal?

Visit the Member Portal login page and select “forgot your password,” then fill out the information to receive the password reset to login into your account. We might not have you already set up in our system, so if you receive this error “A user with that email was not found,” you will need to fill out the Member Portal Login Form to request a login be created in our system. If you have any additional questions about the Member Portal, you can email the staff at memberportal@agcsd.org.

BY REGISTERING FOR THE SESSION YOU ARE AGREEING TO THE POLICIES BELOW:

Payment Policy: Payments must be received at time of registration. Registrations will not be confirmed until payment is received.

Member Rate: Applies to AGC San Diego Chapter members and their employees that are in good standing.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation requests must be received in writing at least 3 business days before the training. In those circumstances, registration fees will be refunded, minus a 5% processing fee. Cancellation requests received less than 3 business days before training cannot be refunded. The request must be sent in writing via email to agcsdeducation@agcsd.org.

Transfer Policy: On an individually approved basis, registrants who must cancel enrollment due to extenuating circumstances may make one transfer of their registration to a future training session, provided the same course is already scheduled within one year of the prior class date. Any subsequent rescheduling of a class registration after the first occurrence must be requested in writing and may be granted by the AGC Education Department only after evaluation. Requests must be received in writing no later than 3 business days prior to class and delivered to agcsdeducation@agcsd.org. All transfers must be used towards the same class topic and same individual.

Substitution Policy: Registered attendees who must cancel their participation may request a substitute to attend in their place at any time. The request must be sent in writing by the original registrant to agcsdeducation@agcsd.org at least 24 hours before the class/course begins.

No Show Policy: If registrant is a “no show” for a training class, the individual/company will be responsible for the entire course fee and will not be refunded or credited for a future training class.

Low Enrollment

AGC San Diego reserves the right to reschedule or cancel any course within 48 hours of the scheduled date due to low enrollment. Contact person and attendee will be notified by email of any changes.

Class Format: In Person

Requirements: Participants must bring their own computers or tablets that include Bluebeam download

Bluebeam Basics is an instructor led 8-hour interactive hands-on training. This in-person class is offered at the computer lab located at the AGC San Diego headquarters in Lakeside. Learn the essential skills necessary to mark-up PDF drawing sets and digitally collaborate with project partners in real time. Recommended for all users, including those with some experience in Revu.

Course Description: Good computer skills are important whether you work in the office or out in the field. This half-day hands-on course is a great starting point for beginners. Recommended for anyone who hasn’t worked with formulas or charts before or those with little or no experience with Excel. Great refresher course for students who haven’t used Excel in a long time. Learn how to navigate the Excel user interface. Customize the Quick Access Toolbar to include your favorite commands. Learn many keyboard shortcuts that will speed up common tasks. Create, Open, Close, Save, Preview, and Print a variety of different spreadsheets. Spreadsheet design principles and “best practices” will also be covered. Building Information Modeling

(4 units; 32 hours):

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is changing the way projects are constructed. Whether you are a prime contractor using BIM across an entire project or a subcontractor impacted by a specific BIM implementation, this emerging practice requires new mindsets and technological know-how in order to achieve significant improvements in efficiency and cost control.

AGC’s BIM Education Program — developed in conjunction with leading BIM practitioners, technology firms, and educators — is designed to prepare construction professionals at all experience levels to successfully implement BIM on a construction project.

Lean Construction (7 units; 35 hours):

Everyone related to the construction process has an incentive to get the project done faster and at a lower cost — from the project owners who want to see results for their investment to the contractors and designers who want to do their job well and move on to the next project. Lean Construction is based on the holistic pursuit of continuous improvements aimed at minimizing costs and maximizing value on a construction project: planning, design, construction, activation, operations, maintenance, salvaging, and recycling.

To help contractors develop the knowledge needed to build Lean, the Associated General Contractors of America developed the Lean Construction Education Program (LCEP). Project Management Development

(5 units; 80 hours): The Project Manager Development Program (PMDP) is for early-career project managers or those looking to move into such a role. It is a fivecourse program that covers the essentials of project management and provides a solid foundation for longterm career development. Each unit is around 16 hours of content, making the 5-course program around 80 hours of instruction. The curriculum is offered at many of AGC’s chapters nationwide or can be brought in-house to construction firms and educational institutions in order to teach a new generation of project managers the essential skills to ensure project success.

PMDP participants are likely to have various titles depending on the kind of work they perform, the geographical location of their projects, and the size of their company. They may have titles such as assistant project manager, project manager, field engineer, project engineer, project administrator, etc. They may have experience as estimators, field personnel, project assistants, or office managers, and they may work in the heavy and highway sector, the commercial building sector, or in residential construction. They will most likely be early in their careers, have some post-high-school education, and less than two years of project-related experience.

Construction Supervision Fundamentals (1 unit; 25 hours)

Introductory, on-boarding: The CSF course is designed for aspiring front line leaders who are looking to learn the entry level management skills to lead construction activities. This course is the first step in the path to develop construction supervisors. This interactive course allows the building trades and craft workers to experience construction supervision techniques firsthand and create a professional development plan to achieve personal career goals.

This program is held VIRTUALLY via ZOOM. The instructor is Larry J. Smith, PE, CCM who is certified by the USACE Sacramento District CQM Course Manager to present this training. The LIVE online training class uses PowerPoint presentation, workbook exercises with discussion, quizzes, case study exercises, a homework assignment, pre-test, & final exam. We limit each class to no more than 40 per session. Late cancellation notices received within 24 hours of the course will incur a $50 fee.

The USACE CQM-C course offers prospective quality control managers / representatives the opportunity to satisfy the CQM training requirement specified in most Corps and NAVFAC construction contracts and must be taken and passed by any contractor aspiring to do work for us on projects of roughly $1 million or more, within 45 calendar days after contract award.

General Information. This program has been updated as of January 21, 2021. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requires the contractor’s Quality Control Managers to attend the “Construction Quality Management for Contractors” (CQM-C) course and obtain a Certificate of Completion before being allowed to perform their quality control responsibilities outlined in the contract. Certificates of Completion are valid for five years from the date of course completion.

Critical Path Method (CPM) Scheduling is the most widely used scheduling technique in the Transportation market. This scheduling technique is used to plan and control a project and to calculate the minimum completion time for a project along with the possible start and finish times for the project activities.

Construction contracts require the creation and maintenance of construction schedules. Most construction projects are driven by the Critical Path Method of scheduling (CPM). The best construction contracts and subcontracts effectively outline project scope, detail expectations, identify risk allocation, and more. When conflicts arise, the parties’ written agreements also provide the roadmap for judges or arbitrators to help resolve future disputes. As a result, the contents of these agreements are critical and will often “make or break” potential claims. Unfortunately, confusing language and legal jargon—further complicated by impacts caused by COVID-19—often make it difficult to understand exactly what risks you are signing up for. BOOM LIFT OPERATOR CERTIFICATION TRAINING

The training covers the responsibilities of all parties associated with the operation of mobile elevating work platforms (as outlined by ANSI A92.24-2018 and CSA B354.8:17), hazard recognition and avoidance, pre-operation inspections, function tests, workplace inspections and safe operation. Our Operator training is broken down into three segments: theory, practice, and evaluation. The theory segment is learned in a classroom and includes training on the entire safe-use standard and how it applies to the machine. The practice segment includes applying this knowledge for proper hands-on experience and machine operation. The evaluation segment includes proper documentation of success in the previous two training segments.

CONFINED SPACE FOR ENTRANT, ATTENDANT, ENTRY SUPERVISOR, COMPETENT PERSON & NON-ENTRY RESCUER

This Confined Space Entry Training course provides information for any person who may be called upon to execute any task that requires entering a confined space. The course covers OSHA Regulations, review of a permit entry program, emergency procedures, and demonstration of special equipment. In addition, the course will cover atmospheric hazards, monitoring and ventilation techniques, physical hazards, and self-contained breathing apparatus donning operations. Lastly, special hazards of rescue entry situations and rescue techniques will be addressed. During this 8-hour program, participants will learn the proper procedures for making entry into “Permit Required” Confined Spaces. This program is required by OSHA before an employee can enter a “Permit Required” Confined Space.

CPR / FIRST AID WITH AED TRAINING

This hands-on training course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid, CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. This program will help employers meet OSHA and other federal and state regulatory requirements for training employees how to respond and care for medical emergencies at work. This CPR/First Aid/AED course gives individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing, cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest, until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Upon completion of this course, students receive an First Aid CPR AED Course Completion Card that is valid for two years.

OSHA / Safety Training

EM 385-1-1 40-HOUR

The Federal Government requires contractors to comply with EM385-1-1 Safety and Health requirements training before any work is performed on military job sites. This course is for contractors, military and government employees who enforce or must comply to the EM385-1-1 US Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health requirements. This class is taught by experienced instructors with hands-on experience who will share “real life” scenarios. This 40-hour training course provides information relative to the US Army Corps Safety and Health Requirements Manual, EM 3851-1 and pertinent Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction standards for contractors, military and government employees. A certificate will be issued to all students who satisfactorily complete the course and is valid for five years. Participants will also receive their OSHA 30-Hour Card.

EM 385-1-1 REFRESHER

This 8-Hour EM 385-1-1 Refresher training is to update and aid any Site Safety and Health Officer and any student who has attended a past 40 Hour EM-385 course and familiar with the EM-385-1-1 manual. Special emphasis will be on review of Accident Prevention Plan and Activity Hazard Analysis using the EM 385-1-1 and review of Program Management, Personal Protective and Safety Equipment, Electrical, Fall Protection, Work Platforms and Scaffolding, Safe Access, and Ladders and Excavation and Trenching.

FALL PROTECTION COMPETENT PERSON RETRAINING

In accordance with ANSI Z359.2 (5.1.3), all Fall Protection Competent Persons shall have a retraining course at least every 2 years to stay current with updated equipment and standards. At course completion, students will be given a certificate of completion in Competent Person for Fall Protection Refresher/Update in accordance with ANSI standards.

ANSI/ASSE Z359.2-2017 FALL PROTECTION RETRAINING STANDARD

5.1.3.1 Retraining shall be provided as necessary in the following situations:

• changes in the fall protection program render previous training obsolete;

• changes in fall protection or rescue equipment render previous training obsolete;

• inadequacies in an employee’s performance indicates a lack of knowledge or skill;

• a condition in the workplace changes in a manner that could affect the safe use of the fall protection or rescue equipment.

5.1.3.2 If none of the conditions listed in 5.1.3.1 are applicable, the duration for retraining shall be conducted as follows:

• authorized person: every two years

• competent person: every two years

• authorized rescuer: every two years with annual drill

• competent rescuer: every two years with annual drill

• authorized rope access person: every two years

• competent rope access person: every two years

FALL PROTECTION 8-HOUR CPT

This course is intended for any construction employee working on a job site where fall hazards exist. This course covers FED OSHA and CAL OSHA Safety Requirements. Participants will: Understand the best practices to identify and eliminate fall hazards; Understand the different applications of passive, restraint and arrest systems; Be able to perform assessment of fall hazards; Select the correct fall protection equipment; Manage the job-site fall protection program; Make sure the planned procedures are in place; Make sure that any rescue procedures are in place and compatible for the given job-site.

FALL PROTECTION 24-HOUR CPT FOR EM 385-1-1

This in-depth Fall Protection - 24 Hour EM 385 course is designed for those individuals who will be or are responsible for being a Competent Person, Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO), or are involved with working at heights on any NAVFAC or Army Corps of Engineers project or facility as prescribed by EM385-1-1. This course is intended for competent persons that will be assigned to manage a fall protection program on government projects. Students will gain a thorough understanding of how to recognize fall hazards and take corrective action according to EM 385-1-1 and 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M and ANSI requirements covering Fall Protection.

This three-day training course includes classroom discussion, physical demonstrations, and practical hands-on activities using the AGC Fall Protection Campus and hands-on activities on how to properly select, inspect, install, assemble, and use fall protection equipment. Training shall include inspecting the AGC Fall Protection simulators and systems prior to use, installation, component compatibility, estimating free fall distances, total required clearance, dismantling, storage, and the common hazards associated with each system and component.

At course completion, students will be given a certificate of completion in Competent Person for Fall Protection. Anyone managing a safety program or who are responsible to be the on-site Competent Person, all staff who work at heights including Safety Managers, Safety Directors, On-site Managers, Supervisors, Section Leads and Responsible Persons and those working on Government Projects should attend.

FLAGGER CERTIFICATION TRAINING - CALTRANS APPROVED

The flagger’s role is to protect project personnel and provide safe, courteous, and authoritative directions to traffic seeking passage through the work area. This course will teach students standard flagger control references, proper flagging signals procedures, and standard flagger practices for various situations. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an ATSSA Flagger Certification card. Classroom training provided by Certified ATSSA Flagger Instructor.

FORKLIFT OPERATOR TRAINING

Classroom and hands-on practical training using clients Forklift equipment. It is understood that the forklift training will include both warehouse and telehandler types. Class (Forklift Training) will consist of:

• Approximately 1.5 - 2 hours of classroom time. Including comprehension checks throughout the class.

• Approximately 2.5 hours of hands-on training. (If the equipment is not available, the instructor will leave forms for a competent person designated by using supervisors to document the hands-on performance of employees.

OSHA 10-HOUR FOR CONSTRUCTION, 2-DAY CLASS

This class is held over two consecutive days. The California OSHA 10-Hour Construction safety course is specially designed to help keep California workers safe while obtaining their OSHA 10-hour card. This training course teaches recognition, avoidance, abatement and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplace. This program also provides information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. It was also designed to help individuals stay up-to-date with their OSHA safety requirements. Official certification card and certificate provided upon successful completion.

OSHA 30-HOUR FOR CONSTRUCTION OUTREACH, 4-DAY CLASS

This class is held over four days. The OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach training course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in the construction industry. Specifically devised for safety directors, foremen, and field supervisors, this program provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues. In addition to learning about safety and health hazards in the workplace, participants will also learn about OSHA, employer responsibilities, and worker rights. OSHA recommends outreach training programs as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926. Official certification card and certificate provided upon successful completion.

QUALIFIED RIGGER & SIGNAL PERSON COURSE

In accordance with OSHA Regulation (1926.1404(r)(1) and 1926.1425(c)) employers are required to use a qualified rigger during hoisting activities for assembly and disassembly work, and whenever workers are within the fall zone and hooking, unhooking, or guiding a load, or doing the initial connection of a load to a component or structure. According to OSHA, a qualified rigger is a person that possesses a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or has extensive knowledge, training, and experience, and can successfully demonstrate the ability to solve problems related to rigging loads. This course can be scheduled on-site at Craneology, or on-site at your location.

SCAFFOLD 8-HOUR COMPETENT PERSON TRAINING (CPT)

AGC San Diego Chapter is an accredited training institute for the Scaffold & Access Industry Association’s (SAIA). Competent Person Training is available in all two major supported scaffold systems: frame scaffolds and systems scaffolds. These classes are designed for scaffold erectors and covers the safety aspects regarding scaffold foundations, scaffold components, regulations, guardrail requirements, fall protection, scaffold stabilization, and erecting and dismantling procedures for scaffolds that exceed the height-to-base ratio. This class has a three-year certificate. Designed for those who are supervisors, foreman and employees that erect scaffolds and oversee scaffold erection.

SILICA COMPETENT PERSON TRAINING

This new half-day course will provide initial training for persons designated by their construction management to act as the Silica Competent Person for their site(s) or who want to learn more about the role of the competent person under the new OSHA Construction Regulation (29 CFR 1926.1153) and Cal/OSHA Construction Regulation (8 CCR 1532.3) for Respirable Crystalline Silica. Participants will acquire knowledge through lecture and real-world interactive examples that will help prepare them to comply with the new silica standard.

TRAFFIC CONTROL TECHNICIAN (TCT) - CALTRANS APPROVED

Everyone involved in a construction work zone project should have a basic knowledge of temporary traffic control that allows them to assist in installing traffic control devices, monitoring their performance, and recognizing deficiencies during the course of a project. The TCT course is an introduction to temporary traffic control in work zones for individuals who work in the field installing and removing traffic control devices. The course provides concepts, techniques, and practice exercises in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices. This program is a combo course and will include Flagger Certification. *Classroom training provided by Certified ATSSA Flagger Instructor
