Introduction COAT (Centralized On Arrival Training) is the first step of the EVS Training and Evaluation Cycle provided within the Youth in Action Program. This publication refers to the training courses addressed to the volunteers arrived in Italy for their European Voluntary Service experience during the financial year 2012-2013, involving 360 EVS volunteers in 12 training courses, realized from April 2012 to February 2013. The on arrival training was carried out by CEMEA del Lazio (Training Centres for Active Education Methodology), winner of the Public Call published by the Italian National Youth Agency on September 2011. CEMEA del Lazio has a consolidated experience in the EVS training and evaluation, realizing since 2003 many pre-departure and on arrival trainings as well as mid-term evaluations. Cemea del Lazio chose to be supported, both for the intercultural and language trainings, by the National Pool of trainers REPLAY Network. REPLAY Network is an association of trainers, active at international level within almost all the EU programs dealing with non-formal education, learning mobility and active citizenship. Its main goal is to project, organize, and develop training activities addressed to different kinds of participants (trainers, youngsters, adults, organizations, etc.), always using non formal learning and active methodology in order to contribute to the personal and professional growing of individuals. Experience almost unique in Europe, on arrival training is in Italy the result of a combined effort between intercultural and language training (Italian as L2). In both cases the methodology is active and participatory. Language training is closely related and linked to the other learning activities, allowing the development of the entire training in a more efficient way. The information presented here is the result of the data processing resulting from the questionnaires given to the European volunteers at the start of the on arrival training in order to outline the profile of the volunteers, and the ones given at the end in order to receive a feedback about the course directly from participants.
