CHRONIC DISEASES

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 40% of school-aged children and adolescents have at least one chronic health condition in the United States. These diseases can be asthma, obesity, and behavior/learning problems.

The top leading condition among children and adolescents in the U.S is asthma. This chronic illness may affect 10% of young (in a classroom of 30 children, about three are likely to have asthma).

Asthma is a chronic inflammation that affects the airways, decreasing airflow in and out of the lungs. Symptoms in each patient may vary in frequency and severity. They consist of shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, and cough, mainly at night. It is estimated that more than 200 million people have asthma worldwide.

Iron deficiency (ID) is one of the most common chronic conditions among children and adolescents in the United States and worldwide. This disease tends to be underestimated by parents, but it may increase the risk of developmental delays and behavioral disturbances. According to research, the prevalence of Iron Deficiency and anemia among children 1–5 years is 7.1% and 3.2%. Iron Deficiency and anemia are more common among children 1–2 years.

Anemia

Children with anemia have less social skills and less psychomotor development, and, in addition, they have attention and concentration deficiencies.

Children with anemia are often tired and feel fatigued. For this reason, they do not have the same level of attention as other children, affecting their daily lives. On the other hand, they are at greater risk of having an infectious disease since their defenses are usually low.

ANEMIA SYMPTHOMS

OBESITY Childhood obesity has been increasing during the last decade, and this condition requires attention from parents. Obesity results from an imbalance between energy consumption and expenditure, and its most typical causes can be genetic, biological, behavioral, and cultural factors (inadequate diet and sedentary lifestyle). Its treatment is very complicated at the growth stage because any nutritional deficit can harm the child’s development.
