YOUR CHILD CAN BE SEPARATED FROM YOU

Campylobacter infection from dogs is one of the many contagious diseases produced by contact with our pets, so we must be aware of them. Usually, this bacterial infection is one of the primary causes of diarrhea, especially among babies, children, and adolescents.

The Campylobacter genus is a set of various bacteria (such as Jejuni, Coli, and Fetus) and is typical in farm animals or houses with pets. These elongated microorganisms require low oxygen levels to survive. They stay alive in the intestines and cannot be eliminated through feces.

Spread of The Infection

The contagion occurs by ingesting contaminated water or food. Another way to become infected is to be in contact with the fecal matter of a sick person.

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms caused by Campylobacter infection usually appear 2-5 days after exposure and continue for about a week.

Gastroenteritis caused by Campylobacter bacteria includes diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramps, which can be severe. Diarrhea can be watery and sometimes bloody and usually accompanied by nausea, vomiting, headache, muscle pain, and fever around 102°F (39°C).

Bacteremia is a complication caused by infection with this bacterium and occurs temporarily when the bloodstream is repeatedly or continuously infected. This complication also affects people with disorders that weaken the immune system. This infection can cause prolongated or repeated fever.

Any dog can be a vector of Campylobacter bacteria even if it appears healthy. Therefore, the best option is prevention and protect the family’s health when you and your kids are around your dog.

Wash your hands with soap and water (or sanitizer) immediately after handling your dog’s food. Or after cleaning up your pet’s droppings.

(Don’t forget to do the same with your children)
