02 Riverside Apartment Introduction
Residential Design Project
Teddington Wharf is located on an attractive stretch of the River Thames, directly opposite Teddington Lock, just upstream from Richmond Bridge. The large block of apartments was constructed in the late 1990s by St George, a wellknown property developer. It contains two- and three-bedroom units including several penthouses, all with superb views towards the river. The complex includes a fitness centre, a riverside restaurant, a boathouse and moorings. The layout provides for two parking spaces per unit. This spacious, bright and airy apartment is approached from a welcoming communal entrance hall with stairs and lift to all floors, including down to the undercroft secure parking area. This apartment occupies a super position in the sought after Wharf development with double glazed windows and doors throughout, wooden floors and air conditioned, and offers almost 1,700 sq.ft of living space. The apartment is East / North-East facing.

Concept CLIENT PROFILE A couple, who are in their 30s without children, want to have an apartment with a fabulous living/ dining area and open plan kitchen, where they could entertain their guests and relax after a long day. Both have artistic training: Louise is a textile designer and parttime teacher and Tim is a professional photographer and now specialising in teaching. They both need suitable office/studio space at home in which to work. They have asked for a guest bedroom which could also be used as a room where they could read/ watch TV. CONCEPT STATEMENT I wanted to incorporate in the design their love for art - Bauhaus, photography, their love for Japan bamboo, wooden panels, plants and simplicity and to create a space where they could not only entertain, but also to relax after a hard working day.

03 Built-In Fitment for Boy’s Room Introduction
Residential Design Project
The clients have asked to design a unit to be built into a corner recess in their teenage son’s study bedroom. The unit must be designed to contain the following items:
• •
A limited quantity of clothing: jackets, shirts, trousers, sweaters and shoes
• •
Textbooks, maximum size A4
A small computer desk, space for a laptop computer, two small speakers, a compact combined printer/scanner/copier and a small drawer for the storage of discs Storage for outgrown toys and games.
The client is looking for a unit that is contemporary in feel but that uses timber as its base material. This does not preclude the use of more exotic materials, but they must be for decorative effect rather than for the structure of the unit. So you can consider the use of glass, aluminium, other metals or plastic, as long as they are applied in a decorative manner. Designed with VectorWorks, ProCreate

05 Control Tower Introduction
Residential
The building is situated in the centre of a former airfield outside Saffron Walden in Essex. It is very exposed and is at the top of a hill subject to strong winds from the north east. The surrounding land is mostly arable and hilly. A long narrow lane leads from the road at the northern end of the site up to the house. A small garden space separates the house from a disused barn, with gated access to farmland in the south-western corner. The clients would like to renovate the whole house which could accommodate a modern family. They are still not sure how many bedrooms they would like to have, but they want every bedroom to be a good size to accommodate a comfortable life/stay. Outside they would like to have a beautiful landscaped garden with some modern features. The barn could be used as John's workshop to make furniture (one of his hobbies) and a place to do yoga. Concept CLIENT PROFILE A couple in their mid-thirties has asked to redesign an old 1930s Control Tower. They have asked for a modern, comfortable house which would have features of 1930s era. The husband is a full time engineer at a construction company and a part-time nuclear engineering student. The wife is a Senior Auditor at a software company and a part-time student of a children's book illustration. CONCEPT STATEMENT The clients have travelled a lot, are adventurous, love the colour, movement, but also the simplicity of a modern living, hence the design should communicate all of the above and also remind of the era the house was built.

06 Bay Window Banquette Seating Introduction
Detailed drawing
The client has asked to construct and make drawings for a fitted seating area, between kitchen and hallway - not necessarily an area designed / planned out for people to pass by, but equally a place to sit on comfortably, enjoy a book or take part in a conversation with people around. Retail Design Project
Introduction A young, growing company, which owns several small and successful hairdressing businesses. It has recently acquired a shop unit in a prestigious pedestrian shopping centre and is seeking to create a flagship salon with a new corporate identity and design to lead the company’s planned expansion into major European cities. Together with a name and logo, the client asked to choose colours and finishes, furniture, furnishings and dress code or uniform. The directors have asked to plan the space for an appropriate number of staff, with enough space for waiting before and during sessions, for consultations and for the sale of hair products. The client wishes customers to enjoy their visits in an attractive and comfortable atmosphere. Designed with VectorWorks, ProCreate

Concept CLIENT PROFILE The hairdressing company provides all types of hair styling for men and women, washing, cutting, styling, colouring, drying and specialist treatments such as hair straightening. CONCEPT STATEMENT The client wants clean, simple lines with concrete colours/ textures, as well as the dominating gold colour, the other colours should not be disco rouged, but it should be in smaller sizes. They asked to make the celling one of the most interesting part of the salon, as their customers spend a lot of time looking up (over the procedures)

The chain curtain reminds of the hair fringe. It also makes a barrier between the outside and inside of the salon, however, as it is not completely opaque, passers by can have a glimpse of what is in the salon.
