To whom it may concern: I would like to take the opportunity to recommend Agnieszka Chromiec, who worked in our office from April, 2018 till October, 2018. During her time with us, Agnieszka participated in the following projects: Rocycle – concept, preliminary and definitive design and construction drawings for a 350 m2 boutique-fitness in Amsterdam (NL) Huis de Swaan – concept dsign for an Amsterdam house refurbishment (NL) Rijnhaven Rotterdam – masterplan for a harbour transformation project (NL) Park Groenwijck – definitive design for a 8500 m2 housing project in Hoorn (NL). Concept Area – furniture design for a 350 m2 concept space in a high-end department store (NL) Her tasks consisted of carrying out architectural research, model building, 2D technical drawing and 3D modeling, as well as conceptual and presentation diagrams. Agnieszka worked with software programs AutoCAD, Rhino, Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite. Agnieszka is an individual with a sharp mind and a positive attitude who can accept responsibility and can work independently. She has good design capabilities and the work she produces is creative, accurate and consistent. Agnieszka has proven herself of great value to our office, and had a very positive impact on other interns that joined the office after her and who she helped during their first weeks in our team. Her openness to new ideas, her hard work and versatile skills make Agnieszka a valuable contribution to any creative environment. Agnieszka has put long hours under significant pressure to ensure deadlines were met and projects were presented as well as possible. It has been an extreme pleasure to work with Agnieszka. She has always been dedicated and passionate about her work. It is for these reasons that I offer my high recommendation for Agnieszka. I wish her all the best in her future career. We are sorry to let her go, but we feel she is ready for more responsibilities. Her drive and abilities will truly be an asset to any office. Yours sincerely,

XML Architecture Research Urbanism, Krelis Louwenstraat 1 F7, 1055 KA Amsterdam Frame Vastgoed, Gemeente Rotterdam Rotterdam Residential, cultural, leisure 21 ha research, concept phase, building a model, rendering
In autumn 2017, XML completed exploratory research commision for Frame Vastgoed with regard to the development of Katendrecht-Pols as ‘Design District’. The Municipality of Rotterdam has been working on a new vision for Rijnhaven, which is adjacent to our clients investement, therefore we got involved in the discussion about it. Together with Plein 06 and Erick van Egeraat we have been commisioned to come up with visionary ideas and strategies to develop Rijnhaven. An Ambition Document released by Gemeente Rotterdam indicates this area as future vibrant center of Rotterdam, with mixed use program that provides a minimum of 150 000 m2 GFA, including housing, cultural, and commercial program that provides public green areas for the neighbourhood. I have been involved in studies of a masterplan for this harbour transformation project.
The water of the Rijhaven was originally a busy, urban water square, full of ships, piers and industry.
Connecting this bank of Maas with the center of Rotterdam by Erasmus bridge in 1996, enabled rapid development of southern part of the city. The area around Rijnhaven is surrounded by cultural and spatial landmarks, such as Luxor Theater, De Rotterdam building by OMA.
Rijnhaven is a huge void within the city structure. As the dock has lost its harbour function, there is a potential to transform it into a vibrant part of the city of Rotterdam.
Study #1 Based on the municipality guidelines the new program is organized along Posthumalaan street. The Rondje Rijnhaven is completed and the green public space surrounds the whole water basin.

Study #2 A series of smaller piers are added at Rijnhaven. This allows all building to have direct access to the water. By dividing the program into three piers each one of them can have its unique character.

Study #3 The program is organized along Posthumalaan street and broken up into smaller pennisulas. These work as distinct neighborhoods with their own character, from residential to cultural, from more private to completely public. references: Christiansholm Copenhagen

Rijnhaven strives to be a new center of Rotterdam. The quay of the Rijhaven roundabout is 2 km. This is far too long for a pleasant walk that suits an unambiguous urban center. A more compact urban environment is necessary in order to provide a cosmopolitan, pedestrian center; with high density and diversity of its program.
Study #4 An island that is created, becomes stepping stone, a connecting element between the two piers, bridging the enormous distance of the water. The amount of waterfront increases, so that the best development locations also increase. The island is compact enough to be solely pedestrian. A parking garage can is planned underneath the entire island to guarantee accessibility by car. Pedestrian and bicycle access is provided by a number of bridges that follow the important sightlines in the area. The island becomes both destination as a connecting element. The edges of the island are programmed with urban public spaces such as swimming pool, park, outdoor theater and marina.

XML Architecture Research Urbanism, Krelis Louwenstraat 1 F7, 1055 KA Amsterdam Hoorn residential 8500 m2 definitive design phase: preparation of documentation for the building permit, correction of floor plans, drawing elevations, detailing construction 2020
Park Groenwijck is a residential project in Hoorn, which consists of two buildings: Parkvilla and Watervilla. Designed with simplicity and attention to detail, this residential development is going to compliment the green area of Hoorn and provide housing for new inhabitants. I stepped in the project in the final phase, making adjustments in the floor plans, I was preparing documentation for the building permit, redrawing elevations including brick count and adjustment of size, preparing drawings of details of the brick facade.

In collaboration with XML we completed the design for a boutique fitness studio located in De Pijp. Rocycle is the first fitness studio in the Netherlands that combines fitness with a high-end hospitality experience, offering full body workout spinning classes. The design marks the introduction of ‘athleisure’ inspired fitness concepts - merging athletics with leisure - to the Netherlands. The design features a translucent wall with changeable LED texts in the main lobby. Located on the ground floor of an existing apartment building, a soundproofed cycling studio was engineered with 35 speakers, offering an immersive music experience. I was directly responsible for management of all CAD files and producing the project’s documentation for the builder. Therefore: drawing floor plan, sections, elevations, exterior signage, furniture and details. Moreover I handled adjustments of installations, acoustic insulation.

Casa Rana (Frog House) is located on the outskirts of Alicante. Its unique shape is the architectonic response to the complexity of the surrounding terrain. The movements inside the house are circling around the green patio, opening to the lake and greenery. The house was made to become a shelter for a family and their impressive collection of reptiles; placed in the underground of the house. The house has an introvert facade on the side of the street and opens towards a lake. I was involved in the conceptual part of the project, starting from sketch models, drawing floor plans, creating a 3D model in Rhino and visualization.

Karolina Tatar CONNECTIONS – the Town and the River International Biennale of Architecture Kraków 2019 Kraków PL 3rd PRIZE
The Biennale aims to explore ideas of reinterpretation of the relationship between the city of Kraków and Wisła River. In biology, co-evolution is the mutual evolutionary influence between two organisms that become dependent on each other. This project is an exploration of interdependence of Kraków – Wisła relationship on a regional level. Looking at two organisms, we attempt to redefine their coexistence to face the uncertain reality of climate change and restore the real connections.

The value of the Wisła River shifted to industry, urban growth resulted in fixed concrete banks. After the post-industrial revolution, Wisła became sewage disposal, and in the consciousness of the inhabitants, a ‘city pond’ reflecting monuments. Nowadays as a result of already visible Commensalism climate changes, Kraków is experiencing increasing heat and heavy rains, which are only adding to long lasting issues such as smog or overheating. strategies: implementation on site I) Room for the river Dyke relocation to enlarge the floodplain and give space for self regulation. We have consciously decided to partially deconstruct the historical flood protection wall. This point of contact between Planty and Wisła is largely disrupted by the presence of this obstacle, and giving room to the river means bringing people closer to it as well. II) Purification and retention Using slopes with natural filtration steps- cleaning and collecting water within river banks, creating attractive green spaces III) Education Renaturalised riverside allows people to experience the variability and seasonality of the river flows. IV) Connection Network of improved paths based on flood protection dykes, shuttle ferry connection, soft means of transport: pedal boats, kayaks ect.

V) Placemaking Making Dębniki’s vacant buildings available for public functions, would spark growth and interest of visitors. Collaboration with already existing local NGOs and groups such as Wodna Masa Krytyczna, Siostry Rzeki, who are directly involved with promoting of river protection and river sports, would unite the people who care about Wisła’s well-being. The meander of Wisła used to be a public beach. As an attempt to balance the touristic intensity of Kraków’s city center, we propose to create spaces of leisure for the inhabitants on the other bank of the river. Central location with stunning view would be a rewarding spot for enjoying a sunny afternoon. V)
