The back story

Creative requirements

Childhood memories is something that we all share. It is a time of our life when the imagination is limitless and it can create a protective bubble that allows us to explore the world in a way that we may not be able to do as adults.

Character design- recreating the characters who play the crucial role in each of the memories. Each character will have attributes characteristic to the person/animal who it meant to represent.

It is important to cherish those memories as it shows how it shaped as to be the adults that we are now. Even if some of the memories may not be positive it is important for us to learn from it and make amends.

Set design and model making- each scene will take place in a different memorable place which will be recreated according to how it is remembered. The key elements that are important for the scene will be reconstructed.

What’s the challenge?

Technical requirements

Those memories if have not been documented on video tape or photographs only live in our heads. As children we lived for the moment and we may have not have a possibility to capture those moments or simply that was not a priority to do as we were focusing on having fun.

Digital recorder either DSLR camera or a mobile phone to capture images for the stop motion animation.

The goal is to give back life to those mental images and share with people so they can tell their stories. Even though some of the memories are vague we can use our imagination to add the missing links and recreate the moments. We all had different circumstances growing up but this project can trigger people to recall childhoods moments of their own.

Deliverables Moving image- short, animated 2-3minutes story using stop motion technique. This technique provides limitless way to recreate the memories filled with action. It allows to give life back to the memories. In order to make each scene clearer the voice over is required which would help set the tone and introduce the scene. Memory book/photo album- a collection of images that have been recreated from the memory into the physical photo album or a memory book. Each image must be annotated so as the viewer has a better understanding of the captured moment. Blog posts: a minimum of 4 blog posts in order to explain the research process and also to reflect on the process of the production highlighting the challenges faced and skills learnt during the process.

Knowledge of digital software for compositing and editing the images. It will also be used for adding any effects required during the production and for sound and the voice over. Recommended software: Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, InDesign, Mocha Pro.
