What is the full KVK form? Kriski Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is an agricultural extension center established by the Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR) and its affiliated institutions at the regional level to provide various forms of farm support in the agricultural sector.

Is Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) a government? KVK scheme 100% sponsored by Govt. India and KVKs are sanctioned by Agricultural Universities, ICAR institutions, Related Government Departments and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working in Agriculture.


What is the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)? Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) was established in the country to support rural farmers by passing on new technologies to them. The main task of KVKs is to do job training and on-farm technical testing. The first Krisk Vigyan Kendras (KVK) was founded in 1974 in Pondicherry. How many KVKs are under ICAR? There are 700 active KVKs. According to the ICAR website, it is divided into: 458 under State Agricultural Universities, 18 under Central Agricultural Universities, 64 under ICAR institutions, 105 under NGOs, 39 under government departments or other activities of the public sector, and 16 under other mixed educational institutions.

Important Functions of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Farm Testing: Each KVK uses a small farm to test new technologies, such as seed varieties or new farming methods, developed by ICAR facilities. This allows new technologies to be tested at local level before being transferred to farmers. Preliminary Exhibition: Due to the KVK farm and its proximity to nearby villages, it is planning to demonstrate new technological applications in the agricultural sector. Capacity Building: In addition to showcasing new technologies, KVK also hosts capacity building tests and workshops on modern farming techniques with farmer groups. Multi-sectoral support: Provide support to various private and public programs through local and technical networks. It is very common for government research institutes to use a network of KVKs when conducting research with many farmers.


Advisory Services: Due to the growing use of ICT, KVKs have used technology to provide farmers with information, such as weather advice or market prices, radio and mobile phones. In each of these activities, KVK focuses on crops that are specific to the local climate and industry. Some of the factors that can influence this decision are: soil, crops, water availability, seasonal temperatures, and integrated sectors such as dairy and aquaculture. In addition to addressing local conditions, KVKs have also been mandated to increase practices in line with lucrative agriculture, climate-wise agriculture, and food diversity. What is a KVK Portal? Government has launched the Kris Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) Portal which will assist in monitoring the performance of KVKs at the National level and providing timely information and advice to farmers. Aim of KVK Portal: The aim of the site is to transfer technologies developed by agricultural scientists to farmers in a faster and more efficient way using web and mobile technologies and to monitor the activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). Objectives of KVK portal: The objectives of the portal are ● Building a platform to monitor the various activities and use of resources by the various KVKs; ● Creating a database of various programs organized by KVK with their detailed details and learning resources; ● Assisting farmers to resolve their inquiries using web and mobile technology;


● Provide information on the various resources and activities of KVKs and provide links to other important information such as weather and market information.
