Situated off peaceful Pasir Panjang Road, each block at The Verandah Residences embraces the elegant architecture of the surrounding enclave, combining the colonial history of nearby shophouses with contemporary references to its newer neighbours. Unit sizes range from one-bedroom residences, which provide 463 square feet of living space, to the four-bedroom townhouses, which provide up to 2,174 square feet of living space. Colonial hints come in the form of the tasteful black-and-white facades and the eponymous verandahs. Moreover, the gently overhanging roofs and Juliet balconies are both stylish and functional, encouraging natural ventilation through the open interiors, while sheltering the verandahs from rain and direct sun rays.
The common facilities also take on the colonial theme – from the tiles in the swimming pool to the standalone barbecue and dining pavilion, which makes use of traditional-style white screens. The interiors further develop the colonial premise, fusing traditional British style with tropical sensibilities. Whitewashed walls are complemented by black fittings and neutral grey hues throughout, timber is incorporated into the kitchen, and traditional patterned tiles provide the bathrooms with a nostalgic uniqueness. Capturing the essence of heritage gardens, native trees and large accent plants dot the landscape while secluded spaces and sunken planters provide peaceful outdoor retreats for residents.

DUO is located within Bugis, an established arts, educational, heritage and cultural district. It is home to more than 20 historical sites and national monuments, and plays host to an exciting variety of events such as the monthly Bugis Arts Flea Market, and the annual Singapore Night Festival. Located near the Singapore Art Museum, LASALLE College of the Arts, and the Waterloo Street Arts Belt, DUO neighbours this exciting creative world. Next to Bugis is Kampong Glam, a historical Malay-Arab conservation district with a rich history. The colourful shophouses were once home to a multi-ethnic community of early settlers to Singapore more than a hundred years ago. Today, boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants still intermingle with traditional businesses like carpet retailers and spice traders. The design for DUO subtracts circular carvings from the allowable building volumes in a series of concave movements that generate urban spaces – a kind of “urban poché” that co-opts adjacent buildings and symbiotically inscribes the two towers into their context.
By generating the massing through a subtractive process, the elevations of the new towers are reduced to slender profiles. Vertical facades rise skywards along the adjoining roads, while a net-like hexagonal pattern of sunshades reinforces the dynamic concave shapes. The duo of tower volumes is further sculpted to feature a series of cantilevers and setbacks that evoke choreographed kinetic movements of the building silhouettes.

Intended to be a state-of-the-art establishment, the Art and Science Museum is an iconic building located on the peninsula of the Marina Bay Sands site overlooking downtown. Unique roof shape referred to as "The Welcoming Hand of Singapore". These iconic roof shapes are divided into 10 evocative ‘petals’ formed a series of unfolding curved planes with underlaying spheroid that floating over the ground plane ranging in height. The upper and lower surfaces of these intersecting ‘petals’ is made from a smooth fiber-reinforced-polymer (FRP), typically used in high performance racing yatchs, and will gleam white in the sun. The side of the ‘petals will produce a dynamic series of dematerialising reflections between the ‘petals’ since it covered in reflective stainless-steel material that will be ever changing with the natural light condition. The building is supported by a steel lattice diagrid structure and ten steel columns- a sculptural centrepiece that allows the building to seemingly float above. Two enclosed glass atrium sits on each side of the museum will have 360-degree views out to the bay and down along the promenade to the north and south. LOCATION AND NARRATIVE Midwood Condo is a collection of 564 units in two 29-storeys high towers, surrounded by nature enclaves such as Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Little Guilin. Midwood development comes with spacious units ranging from 1 bedroom to 5 bedrooms as well as deluxe penthouse where users will have a good selection of choices. This development features Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) construction methodology which garners high-yielding productivity initiatives such as PPVC (Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction), Modular MEP and MET (Mass Engineered Timber).
THE QUARRY The site is surrounded by several nature reserve. One of the many features that sparks the design interest is the present of large granite quarries around the region. The towering precipice of the queried landscape, it’s jagged façade becomes the inspiration of the overall design intent.
To bring the nature into the site, the design attempt to mimic the land form, creating a valley like depression. Overall, the design offers a residential living wit the nature while respecting its industrial past creating a wellness sanctuary.
FAÇADE EXPRESSION A tower of habitation should fit appropriately within its site. This concerns the visual and physical placement of the building with its surroundings. In this context, the lush greeneries, small urban dwellings, and a sensitive military establishment serve as design cues for the building façade. The fundamental idea of what is private and public is thoroughly explored here. The screens apart from texturing the building, mitigates the need for privacy in relation to the military establishment.
Located not far form MINDEF’s (Ministry of Defence) training ground requires the façade to be designed to comply with the following visual control requirements: • The views from any window, corridor, staircase, or any opening of the buildings or structures towards MINDEF’s premises, exceeding the height of 60m with the Land Parcel must be directed away from MINDEF’s premises; and • The buildings / structures should be oriented to comply with the visual screening requirement as mentioned above or should be visually-screened such that there is no direct line of sight toward MINDFE’s premises with visual screening measure.
MODULARISATION The project comprise two 29-storey residential towers that are made up of 1,598 PPVC modules forming 564 dwelling units. In total, 34 different module types are deployed to achieve fourteen different unit types in both residential towers. At the unit layout planning and design stage, the PPVC modularisation must be undertaken in tandem with the unit layout design as early as possible. Early coordination among Developer, Architect, Structural, MEP Engineer, Builder, and PPVC specialist are essential as this will allow the team to look into the key design aspects upfront including layout design, floor, and ceiling height, etc.
PREFABRICATED PREFINISHED VOLUMETRIC CONSTRUCTION (PPVC) PPVC is one of the game-changing technologies that support the Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) concept to significantly speed up construction. With Midwood Residences, DP had the exciting opportunity to fully integrate PPVC and Integrated Design Delivery (IDD) technologies in its design and construction.
