Given its capacity for dramatic effect, artificial lighting is an exceptionally effective instrument for boosting sales performance – not only for individual retail outlets but also for shopping malls and department store salesrooms. Lighting that is harmoniously integrated into the overall design of a store actively attracts shoppers into the premises. Light also helps remove certain entry barriers, extends the shopper's length of stay in a store and stimulates consumer activity.

Hartono Mall | YOGYAKARTA Special Region of Yogyakarta, INA/commercial – shopping mall/2015 – 2016 Architect : F Architect / Interior : Ferdian

Lighting plays a key role in making shopping a sensory experience. Light creates atmosphere, directs attention to merchandise, supports customer guidance systems and underlines brand image. It performs a number of tasks, from facilitating orientation through accentuating displays to presenting merchandise in a suitable light. iP69 | special lighting design consultant

This project was designed combining natural light and artificial light. The facades are glazed in the main and generate two different views for the nighttime image of the house. The front view focuses the onlooker’s attention to the stair with two level ceiling levels, whereby the another side view with the interior lighting spilling out looks like a huge monochrome color slide.

The living room is illuminated up to 100lux from 7 meters above with eight times 15watt 4000K LED PAR30 downlights. To create more intimate scale and to make maintenance more user-friendly, the use of LED lighting was maximized. Also smaller components such as steplights and inground uplights were applied. iP69 | special lighting design consultant

The design responds to the architectural aesthetic through the strategic integration and placement of luminaires, the lighting of vertical surfaces including wall graphics and colored walls, and color temperatures and distributions which are in harmony with materials and textures.

The lighting of hotel rooms can generally be compared to the lighting of private living spaces. While decorative luminaires establish the first atmospheric impression, the actual lighting effect is often produced by discreet general or accent lighting. Lighting in the unit rooms are designed as balanced composition of ambient luminescence, focal glow and play of brilliants.

Multifunctional rooms require different light scenes. During talks, the attention needs to be focused on the presentation and the speaker. Low general lighting allows the audience to take notes. General lighting provided by downlights allows for a flexible seating arrangement. Spotlights provide subtle accents to compensate for the uniformity of the basic lighting.

Contours, colours and textures bring facades to life. During the day, they are all plainly visible; at night, exterior lighting contributes the design. The facade lighting can even create a totally different visual impact. Favourable elements can be emphasised, unfavourable elements concealed. iP69 | special lighting design consultant

To avoid wasting energy, lighting can be automatically activated by a controller from iPad. Some ranges of energy-efficient light sources are used – such as fluorescent or compact fluorescent, halogen and LEDs lamps, that present a very low energy cost burden because their electricity consumption is minimal. Bright, good lighting is essential for the most important circulation areas of the house. The prime requirement in a hallway is safety and sufficient light at the coat stand and mirror. However, lighting should also set accents and ensure that a guest‘s first impression of the home is a positive one.
