« Le Vietnam a le droit d’être libre et indépendant et, en fait, est devenu un pays libre et indépendant. Tout le peuple du Vietnam est décidé à mobiliser toutes ses forces spirituelles et matérielles, à sacrifier sa vie et ses biens pour garder son droit à la liberté et à l’indépendance » proclame Ho Chi Minh à Hanoï le 2 septembre 1945. Depuis, cette date est devenue celle de la Fête Nationale du Vietnam. À cette occasion, les drapeaux du pays envahissent les rues, diverses commémorations ont lieux, des feux d’artifices sont tirés. Ce jour rappelle la victoire du peuple vietnamien sur la colonisation française mais également l’invasion japonaise.

‘Nước Việt Nam có quyền hưởng tự do và độc lập và sự thật đã thành một nước tự do, độc lập. Toàn thể dân tộc Việt Nam quyết đem tất cả tinh thần và lực lượng, tính mạng và của cải để giữ vững quyền tự do, độc lập ấy,’ Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh đã tuyên bố tại Hà Nội, ngày 2 tháng 9 năm 1945. Từ đó, ngày này trở thành ngày Quốc khánh Việt Nam. Vào dịp này, cờ của đất nước được treo trên đường phố, nhiều lễ kỷ niệm diễn ra và pháo hoa được bắn để chào mừng. Ngày này kỷ niệm chiến thắng của nhân dân Việt Nam trước thực dân Pháp cũng như cuộc xâm lược của Nhật Bản.

“Vietnam has the right to be free and independent and, in fact, has become a free and independent country. All the people of Vietnam are determined to mobilize all their mental and material strength, to sacrifice their lives and property to keep their right to freedom and independence” proclaimed Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi on September 2, 1945. Since then, this date has become the Vietnamese National Day. On this occasion, the country’s flags are displayed in the streets, various commemorations take place and fireworks are fired. This day commemorates the victory of the Vietnamese people over the French colonization but also the Japanese invasion.

Marqué par les préceptes de son enseignement à l’École des Beaux-Arts d’Indochine mais aussi par ses voyages notamment en Europe de l’Est, Lương Xuân Nhị livre ici un rare témoignage sur un Vietnam moderne. Loin des représentations idéalisées des jeunes élégantes, l’artiste se concentre sur l’histoire de son pays et de son quotidien. Au bord du lac Hoan Kiem, en plein centre d’Hanoï, une banderole est fièrement affichée. La foule est au rendez-vous, prête à célébrer ce jour de fête. Un tram en route participe au mouvement de cette scène animée.

Employant une palette douce caractéristique de son travail, l’artiste traite d’un thème inhabituel rendant ainsi un magnifique hommage au Vietnam. Ce sujet lui tenant à cœur se retrouve dans trois peintures à l’huile dont deux étaient conservés chez lui.

Ảnh hưởng bởi những lời dạy tại Trường Mỹ thuật Đông Dương cũng như bởi những chuyến đi, đặc biệt là ở Đông Âu, Lương Xuân Nhị mang đến đây chứng nhân quý giá về một Việt Nam hiện đại. Khác xa những đại diện lý tưởng hóa về những phụ nữ trẻ thanh lịch, họa sĩ tập trung vào lịch sử đất nước mình và cuộc sống hàng ngày của nó. Tại bờ hồ Hoàn Kiếm, trung tâm Hà Nội, một tấm biểu ngữ được giương cao đầy tự hào. Quần chúng có mặt ở đó, sẵn sàng để chào mừng ngày lễ kỷ niệm. Một chiếc xe điện. trên đường góp phần tạo sự chuyển động cho khung cảnh náo nhiệt này.

Influenced by the precepts of his teaching at the School of Fine Arts in Indochina but also by his travels, particularly in Eastern Europe, Lương Xuân Nhị delivers here a precious testimony on a modern Vietnam. Far from the idealized representations of young elegant women, the artist focuses on the history of his country and its daily life. At the edge of Hoan Kiem Lake, in the center of Hanoi, a banner is proudly displayed. The crowd is there, ready to celebrate this day of celebration. A tram on its way contributes to the movement of this animated scene.

Using a soft palette characteristic of his work, the artist deals with an unusual theme. This topic pays a beautiful tribute to Vietnam. It is one that is close to his heart and is reflected in three oil paintings, two of which were kept in his home.
