NEW VISION FOR YBL CAMPUS

01 Ybl Miklos Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering started its 141st academic year in 2020. Since its opening in 1879 times have changed and so has the institution. The main goal however, remained: providing up-to-date education in the field. To accomplish this and respond challenges of the 21st century, even though new methodology and curriculum were established in 2017, however the faculty campus still lack of a space that represent the new methods that the institution aspire to. This project is aiming to fill the formal spatial gap by using variant ways of design thinking, and building techniques.

STATUS QUE STUDY The location where we will work this semester is located in the city of Budapest in the 7th district (Thököly street) more precisely limited on one side to the 14th district (Dózsa György street) and the other side to the 8th district (Verseny street) more precisely to Keleti railway station. According to numerous researches on old maps but also from the existing condition it can be seen that the location in which we are working has been intended for housing and has been built since the 1800s.

If we refer to the existing condition we can say that the destination is the same with some minor changes and that a lot of work has been done and developed in the districts I mentioned earlier 14 and 8, especially in the part where our location is limited, but in this part, we can say that we have stagnation and that is somehow an isolated area.

GREEN We increased greenery in the private courtyards of each building. We designed a public green area in the middle which is fully planted and contains different types of vegetation, also has community gardens which are a new attraction on our site and people can see directly how urban agriculture can be part of a city too. PEDESTRIAN In our design, we multiplied the possibilities of access to our location and in a very natural way the access to different functions like kids park, dog park, restaurants, train museum, workshop space, etc, also creating a “pedestrian bridge” as an attraction which includes cycle path, pedestrian path, viewpoints, benches, etc, and not only for the residents of our location but also for the whole of Budapest, a much easier way of traffic from district 14 then to district 7 and 8 next to Keleti train station. MSc Program Workshop YBL Miklos University of Building science /Cracow University of technology Dierector:arch.PhD. Bugoslaw Podhalanski Year: 2019 Location: Budapest, Hungary Phase: Concept analysis Program: Library, Urban room, Urban Surface

This Project is inspired by the vacant plot in Budapest, inside one of the most famous districts in the city, where you can feel the mixture between locals and tourists, with many attractions which relate to both of them, each piece of land is valuable there, the main concept is to generate a complex form that can welcome any kind of visitor, at the same time creat a sense of calm and dynamic ambient for the surrounding. form the point of the spatial value there our goal is to maximize the benefits of the land by designing an optimzed surface, that cover the function of the library and Urban room.

The designed surface is affected by different kinds of parameters, but the key point for its main gesture is to be responsive to the pedestrian movment around, as well as create vertical passages from the surface up to suspended Gardens around the plot.

the architecture allows us to see culture representing its own values to itself and affords us access to a kind of knowledge about culture and history that would not otherwise be available. Architecture is not just about the need for shelter or the need for a functional building. In some ways, it’s just what exceeds necessity that is architecture. And it’s the opening onto that excess that makes architecture fundamentally a human endeavor.

BRIEF ABOUT THE PROJECT

MOLD is a spatial and spiritual public space installed in Madách Imre Square (District 7, Budapest). The context has a modern historical background with a unique architectural identity (Arch-shaped gate). Redbrick unifies the surroundings and accentuates its visual language. On an urban level, It is an open square that celebrates movement and sociability. MOLD is an interactive project that represents a play of technology, aesthetics, and an economy where the community participates in sculpting elements. Each element has a distinctive role in establishing spatial vocabularies and experiences that become gradually embedded in the collective memory of people. Fixed landscape furniture is replaced by MOLD which is inspired mainly by the notion of orientation (Axis) and destination (The Fountain). Axis stimulates guidance and direction towards a destination that is enhanced by solid stops and markers. The machine used to produce MOLD is reused as a fountain, which is the destination. Water connotes purity and a calm ambiance that emanates sacred qualities. MOLD provides users with access to a valuable kind of timely unrestricted knowledge. It is a dynamic engagement of users in construct-

URBAN AGRICULTURE

06 URBAN AGRICULTURE MSc Program YBL Miklos University of Building science Dierector: Prof. Holm Kleinmann Year: 2019 Location: Budapest, Hungary Phase: Concept Program: Urban agriculture

Urban agriculture may improve the livability and built environment in communities that lack supermarkets and other infrastructure due to the presence of high unemployment caused by deindustrialization. Urban farmers who follow sustainable agriculture methods can not only help to build local food system infrastructure, but can also contribute to improving local air, and water and soil quality. [67] When agricultural products are produced locally within the community, they do not need to be transported, which reduces CO 2 emission rates and other pollutants that contribute to high rates of asthma in lower socioeconomic areas. Sustainable urban agriculture can also promote worker protection and consumer rights. [67] For example, communities in New York City, Illinois, and Richmond, Virginia have demonstrated improvements to their local environments through urban agricultural practices.[68]

MOSUL’S HOUSING

08 Mosul’s Housing RIFAT CHADIRJI COMPETION

SUMMER 2017 Shortlisted in the 20 top projects from 223 entries for Tamayouz Excellence Award. In collaboration with: TAMOOH EDILBI, MOHAMMAD FARES WHBY.

About this Project: “Participants were asked to: - Propose a solution for the Mosul’s upcoming housing crisis, which will affect the city as more neighbourhoods will be freed and internally displaced persons and refugees will start to return. - Design a prototype for affordable housing for the post-Daesh Mosul, which can be easily replicated with the objective of increasing the capacity of housing in the city and providing a practical and inspiring solution for returnees.”

RECONSTRUCTION CONCEPT Blocks and Raw-Housing: By combining multiple numbers from the original housing model, three types of building models can be achieved to best fit every site’s properties and dimensions. The first one is a stand alone building with three houses above each other, the second one is row housing which can be established by making a row from the first building, the last one is a block of four sets as a square centered by the services.

Interior View 1 Visualizing the living space of the house.

The reconstruction plan is treated according to the level of damage on the structures and on the number of adjacent structures that are damaged. The base model can be inputted on the current construction Two types of reconstruction in reference to the damaged area, the first is reconstructing single buildings that are required to be demolished, the second one is the restoration of multiple buildings or nieghborhoods which involves the row-housing models or the block models.

UNIT’S CONCEPT AND AGRREGATION

One of the main design concepts is to provide the user with the ability to create, modify and evolve their house according to each user’s need. This effect can be realised by designing each housing unit with an extra unconstructed spaces for future development and extinsion, while at the same time lowering the cost od building, using sustainable and locally available materials.

ORIENTAL AGGREGATIONS

09 Discrete Modeling SUMMER 2020

About this Project: Being in Budapest gave me a chance to think about more contemporary design Challenges, and I started to build my Coding and modeling skills through individual practices using Rhino Parametric modeling tools, one of them is Oriental aggregation, by using discrete modeling tools, I tried to simplify the geometry of moqarans to one unit and trace it in differents ways, so I can generate a moqarance based on solid geometry, or on curved surfaces.
