RESUME
AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL
The project reuses existing hangars as a place for agricultural education and production in Nablus, Palestine. The Hangars date back to 1950s where they powered the whole city. Now they are empty and abandoned and the project to rehabilitate them came through the Advanced Design Course in Birzeit University.
The location is famous for its car mechanics and supplies and also for the technical schools in the area. The concept was to pin point on this fabric a place that provides healthy atmosphere and plays as a public park to give the area the contrast it needed. The Operationalization of the space was to condut a school that would engage the students with the agricultural production techniques and local expertise.
SITE PLAN
SCALE
1:500
The Analysis took place on three scales, one was the macro-city analysis, the second was the Mezzo scale wich is shown on the right in which the main understanding of the concept was developed, and the third one was the user scal or as called the one to one scale.
A serie of interviews and photo documentation were a strong catalyst that have set the way for community involvement along the design process. Circulation, private owners, dynamics and adjacent functions were put into consideration at the stages of the design development. History of the site was also a part of the study that has led us to better understanding of the city history as a whole. The program and functions of the project came as a result of a communal vision achieved through public participation methods. Private, semi private and public spaces were therefore allocated in the project to maintain an inclusive environment controlled by axes of movement.

ASAL TECHNOLOGIES - FIRST PRIZE
This project has won the first prize in the interior design competition. A fully detailed design of the 1500 sqm biggest IT company in Palestine was provided, Project Status: under implementation
HOTEL LOBBY BY NIKE
The project idea stems up from the brand-based design, where a hypothetical hotel lobby was designed in reference to the Nike brand. The design environment stimulates outdoor sports like running and cross fit trainings.

CONCEPTUALIZATION
PERSPECTIVE PLAN
The design main concept as shown here clearly suggests the open centralized revolving wall, visible to all designers in order to help the collaborative work take place and develop ideas as a team. Another part of the office has a gallery for ready works, posters, photography... etc.
WINERY
LOCATION AND CONTEXT
In the centre of Birmingham UK, the city council interior is designed to envelop a winery and a restuarant. The main question was how to create an experience that would be correspondent to such a vibrant location.
PROGRAM
The placement of the different functions of the winery and restuarant was in respect to the winery tour path beginning with the lounge and ending it at a common area between the restuarant and the winery which is the dining area and the wine tasting bar.
CONCEPT
In respect to the existing building, an offset membrane formed an inside double skin enveloping the winery. This contrast between the new and existing shifts the users experience and atmosphere between the detailed victorian and the simple blob.
MASSING AND FORM
Such a flow of functions required fluidity and continuity. The mass envelopes each function with adjusting to each function differently giving a different sense of height, compactness and joy.
WINERY TOUR
The Tour around the Winery starts with an Introduction stand behind the blob giving the Tour its privacy and allowing the the audience to enjoy this corner’s architectural features.
The user opens to a double volume with the reception centered in the middle and both blolbs are to the sides which gives the user a chance to navigate space easily.
TECHNICAL PLAN
SECTIONS
MEETING TASTING
RESTAURANT
Meeting rooms were part of the city council. Such function would need special care of where to place it. The sound analysis above shows the causes of noise and how the meeting room is isolated, but still integrated with the overall design.
The Restaurant seating area is integrated with the wine tasting area sharing one preparations area. It contains dinning tables and coffee tables with bean bags to give the viewer a higher perspective to the surrounding space.
ATELIER
MODEL AND PLAN
This is an Infill Residential Project that was designed to fit the needs of the Professor of Performing Arts and Theatre Director Aleksander Dundjerovic. The Concept here is the Framing used in Movie and theatre production that produced an element representing a rectangular frame. With Integration to our site chosen in Digbeth, Birmingham UK it is very possible to develop this concept having its original skeletal steel structure as an advantage.
MATERIALS ON SECTION
Materials played an important role in affecting the light measurements. Therefore, each function was wrapped with a suitable material as the following:
Kitchen: Light Pink Marble
(LR 20%)
Living Room: Light Bamboo Wood
(LR 14%)
Projection Room and Bathroom: Pure Concrete
(LR 5%)
Working Area: Light Bamboo Wood
(LR 14%)
Theatre: Pure Concrete
(LR 5%)
Bedroom: Light Bamboo Wood
(LR 14%)
This Clarifies how the selection of materials was based on the function it encloses. So the Marble and wood were used to enhance the reflections in that function and the pure concrete was used to absorb light in order to fit the theatre function for example.
LIGHT DISTRIBUTION
Above is the ground floor light distribution diagram presentinghow the light is almostperfectly uniform for eachfunction. This is due to the small width of each frame and also the half levels system showed in the section. Higher floors have similar distribution. In fact, they have better lightpenetration through the space.
GREENERY
In Addition to the terrace greenery a vertical garden was introduced to the middle frame sliding along a wooden moving wall creating multiple faรงade articulations.
The gridded vertical garden created a shading tool to the working area, and also played the role of an air filter enhancing the fresh air quality entering the space. On the ground floor a red cherry tree was centered in the garden space in front of the kitchen allowing a shaded seating area and a contrasting color to all surroundings.
Integrating Greenery to the project seemed essential in order to not visualy isolate it from its surrounding environment.
VENTILATION
As shown the design allowed fresh air to reach all functions easily, and the contaminated air rises faster due to the prevailing winds that creates suction drafts which make the whole designed environment fresh and healthy, especially that the location of the project is near by a water canal and a lot of nearby vegetation and most importantly it is away from traffic movement. This situation made the need for mechanical ventilation system uncritical. However, such system can be installed with a central unit located at the bottom of the middle frame in addition to the Heating System.
The user’s circulation from a room to another implies that the user will be exposed to fresh air more frequently, this formed what is called being outdoor but indoor. This is a very healthy technique that was reached after studying the client’s routine and health requirements.
HEATING SYSTEM
The Suitable Heating System was the Diesel Boiler Central Water Pumping System. Here the water runs through a circle through the functions and provides heat to all the floorings uniformly. One of the benefits of this system is that the water used to heat the floors can also be used in all sanitary fixtures such as Showers, Sinks‌etc. This pipe distribution considers the total pipe lengths to be minimum hence less cost and less heat loss, however the pipes must be insulated to obtain minimum value of heat loss.
Moreover, this heating system end up heating the air close to the floors which means the air will rise and increase the speed of the ventilation process. Such intertwinement leads to a more conscious Environmental design.
