My name is Ahsan. I'm an architecture graduate, mostly lost in dreams and general thoughts of hows and whys. Sometimes I'm an artist, or a sportsperson, other times I'm a leader or even a spokesperson. I love to travel, game, make rhymes, click pictures and sometimes even just stare at the sky. I'd call myself versatile, but I'd prefer being modest. After all, everyone loves someone who's honest. clubs:interests:languages:email:mob.d.o.bname:nationality:address::no:

VALERE

Semester VII - Design Studio Project Location: Bhopal Site area: 2.08ha

A four-star transient business hotel located in the heart of Bhopal city, Hotel Valere stands as a beacon of tourism and luxury in Bhopal. The objective was to strengthen, modernize and upgrade the hotel facilities in Bhopal. The hotel has 100 keys, with modern amenities and essential facilities.

10

Starting with a simple block form, the hotel block is arranged along the linear site with the main focus on the view factor. The bottom three floors are designed so as to provide maximum area. All the amenities and hotel facilities are provided in these floors. Interlaying block forms provide for a more dynamic design as well as facilitate the use of more open terraces throughout the structure. The form is given an angle to obtain the maximum viewing capacity to and from the adjacent viewpoint of the Lower Lake.

The alternating level design enables pockets of open and semi-open terraces and green spaces in the structure. These terraces act as multi-functional spaces. Roof gardens, Cocktail Lounge, Mini Gold course and the swimming pool complex are all elements of these terraces. The design also offers multiple viewpoints to the users ranging from the Lower lake to the landmark Ravindra Bhawan. The hotel also overlooks city of Bhopal and acts as an anchor point to the modern character of the city.

The design begins with focussing on the existing vegetation on the site. Large trees providing adequate shade are integrated with the school design. It is important to induce the touch with nature early on. The design of the built form tries to depict what every childs initial thought of a building form is. A simple box, with a cone roof. The simplicity and playfulness in the design follows a childish thought. An amalgamation of nature and the built form comes into play in the final design. The kids playground is incorporated beneath the trees, forming a courtyard for the classrooms. The backside of the classrooms have flower gardens enhancing visual and olfactory senses.

OPUS

Semester II - Design Studio Project Location: Bhopal, India Site area: 128m2v

The design objective was to study a renowned building and its architect, and design an office for the architect. Drawing inspiration from the unique style of Daniel Libeskind, the office design tries to depict and symbolize the abstractness and thought-provoking qualities of the architect.

44

The concept was to draw inspiration from them and their tone of artistic flair they had used to paint their dreams onto the world as we know it. To know how it is to impact the everyday person in a thought-provoking way, to make them wonder beauty in architecture. A field that is an amalgamation of art and science, of heart and soul, and power.

The design exercise encouraged us students to look into the works of renowned architects who had made their mark in the world with their unique styles and aspirations.

The Jewish Museum , Berlin, one of Daniel Libeskinds most famous works was the building given to us as part of the case study. Well-known for his angular forms and diagonally sliced windows, The Jewish Museum is a one-of-a-kind architectural marvel. It touched upon the essence of the sites historic remnants and brought upon the modern world a symbol of the grimsome past of the Holocaust. The study opened our eyes towards the power of symbolism through architecture.

" Architecture should make us feel different, if not, engineering would be enough." Daniel Libeskind
