Editor’s Note

Welcome to the Spring 2022 issue! At least here in California, life seems to be getting back to normalcy. With the mask mandate becoming part of our state history, we are looking forward to a new chapter of the Endemic, as everyone calls it. The building design market appears to be improving as well. Many of my colleagues complain how difficult it is to expand their workforce. With the unemployment rate lowering back to prepandemic level, there are plenty of jobs out there. Maybe it is the perfect time to start fulfilling every designer’s dream - start your own firm. I shared some tips on how to start your own firm back in the Spring 2020 issue. This issue, we invited another veteran AIBD member, Jenny Pippin, to share her life journey as a building designer and a successful firm owner. Jenny is a Fellow of the AIBD and a true entrepreneur. I am sure our readers will find her article inspirational. We are glad to have the chairperson of our AIBD High Performance Home Team, Michael Payne to talk about high performance homes. The article discuss various code requirements on the energy front and it is very informative. Make sure you check out the AIBD CAD Detail Library highlighted in the article.

As part of the AIBD magazine tradition, our President, Bernie Kern is also providing a highlight on the success of the past AIBD conferences. We have received tremendous positive feedbacks since AIBD decided to make our conferences available both in person and virtually. Last but not the least, we are showcasing some of the amazing projects of our members under the Members’ Corner section.
