A Memorable Weekend at MYC

It’s long been said that Montauk is the darling of the Hamptons without the attitude. We enjoy fun and soaking up the summer starting with the annual Memorial Day celebration. This year was Epic! Over the holiday weekend, Montauk Yacht Club welcomed a full house of revelers with high energy and enthusiasm. Marina guests were in full force as well, with mega yachts and sport fishermen enjoying the best of what’s in and on the

water. Our largest mega yacht was over 177 feet. Guests were entertained throughout the weekend with performances by the Chuck E Band, DJ Equal and DJ Luka Tacon. The dancing made everyone hungry too! We sold over 75 marguerite pizzas at Hurricane Alley and nearly as many hamburgers & clam chowders at Gulf Coast Kitchen. Summer has officially begun! www.montaukyachtclub.com

(Right to left) Michael Horrigan - CEO and Board Member of Mourjan Marinas and Michael Lenarduzzi, CEO The Wave, Muscat

MOURJAN MARINAS IGY’s rapidly growing portfolio of projects across the Middle East continues to expand following the announcement it will fully manage and operate a stunning new world-class marina at The Wave, Muscat, Oman’s newly developed premier waterfront destination. The Wave, Muscat, is the first integrated resort and residential development to be undertaken in the greater Muscat region and brings with it beautiful properties, a Greg Norman-designed golf course, five-star hotels and a host of new retail, leisure and dining opportunities all situated along a 7km seafront address. At the heart of The Wave, Muscat, lies the 400 plus berth marina, a vibrant destination that will offer a breathtaking setting for sailing enthusiasts whilst providing an integrated marina lifestyle for its new residents. The announcement that Mourjan Marinas IGY will develop The Wave, Muscat, the country’s premier marina, follows a series of strategic partnerships, which it has undertaken in the region, including the operation of Festival Marina, Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the development of the first marina within the prestigious Lusail City in Doha, Qatar. Michael Horrigan, CEO of Mourjan Marinas IGY, said: “We are proud to be a part of what is a very exciting project in Muscat and continuing our rapid growth in this region which is fast becoming one of the leading destinations for marina developments and waterfront living in the world.” What is so appealing about this project is the opportunity it offers Mourjan Marinas IGY to support the

overall goal of Oman to create a world-class sailing industry. We are delighted to be entrusted with such a vital project that will allow us to bring our expertise and knowledge of the market to deliver on what will be one of the region’s leading marinas.” The first phase of the new marina will open in the second quarter of 2011. As part of the development, the marina will provide harbour-side views, dining options ranging from al fresco to quaint coffee shops, and a retail promenade offering trendy fashion stores combined with traditional Omani hospitality and culture. The marina will also offer yacht maintenance and fuelling facilities at its Yacht Club to ensure smooth sailing for individual yacht owners. “We are confident the marina will quickly become the place to be”, Mr. Horrigan said. “From the restaurants through to the shops and cafés, this marina facility will be a location for people to enjoy themselves and socialize, or if they choose to, it will provide a place for visitors to simply unwind and mingle against a backdrop of incredible ocean views.” Mourjan Marinas IGY’s management role with The Wave, Muscat, will see the Dubai-based company provide every level of support from design through to development support and optimizing the marina for operations. Mourjan Marinas IGY will then fully manage and operate the facility and will oversee the regional and global CONTACT marketing of the facility. E: info@mourjanmarinas.com

Cabo Marine Show 2011: A Success in its Second Annual Installment Darren Carey

Darren “Diz” Carey, new manager, Marina Cabo San Lucas

Over five thousand residents, boat enthusiasts and visitors from the U.S. and Mexico converged at the Cabo Marine Show held April 21-23 at IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas. Among principal exhibitors, Azimut Yachts was a show stopper with its 100’ luxury yacht the “Super” on display. The yacht was also the site of a private prelaunch party for participant Baja.com on Friday. Otaduy Yachts introduced its new Bertram and Beneteau representation for the Los Cabos area and Fairline Boats Mexico represented the best in luxury yachts from the UK. New participants included FONATUR, Parker Racor and Village Marine Tec, among a dozen marine services businesses. IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas served as a gateway to the Marina Golden Zone, where the event is hosted each year. Daytime visitors from three cruise ships and evening crowds of Easter weekend vacationers gave this year’s Cabo Marine Show its strongest showing yet. In its second annual installment, Cabo Marine Show has already grown, partnering with IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas, FONATUR and the Marina Golden Zone. For event dates and location for 2012, please contact sales@cabomarineshow.com.

Born in the northeast of England and having lived all over the UK with a few years in Gibraltar and Germany thrown in, the new manager at IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas is enthusiastic about his new home. He answers some questions for us:

How did you get your start in yachting? Through the military where I operated in, from and under a variety of craft. In order to use the skills gained from that I also started volunteering for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, who are responsible for the provision of maritime search and rescue in the UK. I also spent a number of years as an instructor for them teaching all aspects of vessel handling and command. What do you find appealing about MCSL? IGY Marinas is a forward-thinking company with global reach and MCSL is naturally part of that. What’s your favorite thing about the marina? The willingness of the people here to help, and the genuine pride they have in being part of the marina. Tell us something we don’t know about the marina and location. You used to be able to get a cheaper flight back to the US (there was no road then) if you agreed to serve the drinks during the flight!

The IGY Anchor Club Takes Off The newly improved marina loyalty program is growing, which means more rewards, events and gifts for active members. Konreich-NIA (a Marsh McLennan Agency LLC company) is now a strategic partner of the IGY Anchor Club. This will allow captains easy access to customized insurance, risk management and financial solutions designed to fit their unique needs and those needs of the vessel, its guests and of course, its

crew. Headquartered in NYC, the company’s portfolio of products and services include property and casualty insurance, employee benefits, marine insurance, private client personal insurance, life insurance and estate and retirement planning. Rodney Bay Marina Gets New Tenants has prepared a varied menu to suit all tastes, and the whole is supervised by the restaurant manager Alison Devaux and is very reasonably priced. The opening ceremony coincided with the Mike Hackshaw Memorial Game fishing tournament held each year to commemorate Captain Mike. One hundred anglers and friends attended what proved to be a most convivial evening and a promising start to what Bruce hopes will be a valuable addition to the facilities at Rodney Bay Marina. Most notably, the new place will soon become a captain and crew meeting point in the years to come. — Les Hewett A new watering hole has opened at Rodney Bay Marina Boatyard, intriguingly named Capt. Mike’s, owned and operated by Bruce Hackshaw, a well-known local fishing-boat owner. The previous tenant, aptly named The Boatyard Pub, closed some months ago and was standing empty until a chance remark made by Adam Foster, the General Manager of IGY Rodney Bay Marina, sparked an idea in Bruce’s head. Why not, he thought, open a restaurant/bar that would cater to his fishing customers and boating crews in general. A few short weeks later, the new restaurant opened. Dinner customers are well catered for by Chef Joe, who

To keep things innovative, they focus on delivering results-driven treatments with massage as the main stay of the business and as such, they offer a wide variety of treatments. To celebrate its grand opening, Face to Face is offering a 20% discount on all massages and facials throughout June 2011.
