Communication practices:
Verbal Communication: The Kardashians embrace open communication. They are actively involved in each other’s lives. Kris and Bruce try to remain in a position of power to influence the behavior of the children. However, the girls in the family have some conflicts due to their lives being constantly displayed on media. Rob’s mother and his older sisters try to have a family therapy with Rob when they saw that he has been distant and withdrawn from family. However, when he got confronted emotional and stormed out of the room. Nonverbal communication: They like to hug each other and play around by pulling pranks on one another.

Chronic illness Framework
Chronic illness framework or Family Systems and Chronic Illness Framework has three major elements which are illness types, time phases of the illness and family functioning (Kaakinen et al., 2015). The Kardashian family is dealing with, and influenced by Rob’s chronic illness of major depressive disorder (MDD) for years. They have been trying to adjust to the overwhelming course of MDD, which the onset of symptoms has manifested gradually over years. Rob was diagnosed with MDD in 2008 and his course of illness is typical of many individuals suffering MDD. The 30-year-old Rob has been staying away from media and the spotlight for nearly 5 years. He has been battling with depression for more than 8 years and gained more than100 pounds. He is also diagnosed with type II diabetes since he has gained weight. The Kardashians have been trying to adjust to Rob’s illness. The family is exhausted dealing with the new changes of Rob illness. Solutions that have worked for the family in the past are not working with Rob’s progressed depression. The sisters cannot agree on if they should support Rob’s erratic and irresponsible behaviors or dismiss them. Kris Jenner tries to support him financially and she recently bought him a house. Bruce Jenner has been trying to reach out to him but Rob has isolated himself from his family and most of his friends. The family roles need to be supported and redefined. Nurse-led interventions including patient and family education and self-efficacy improve the self-care of patient with chronic conditions such as depressive disorders (Kaakinen et al., 2015). 6

Interventions 1. Assess Rob’s self-esteem using valid and established tools like the Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale. Rationale: The use of valid and established measures of self-esteem will facilitate the identification of appropriate nursing interventions that strengthen selfesteem (McMullen & Resnick, 2013). 2. Encourage Rob to talk about what is happening with him and what has occurred to precipitate feelings of helplessness to his family and friends. Rationale: therapeutic conversations assist him in making meaningful life changes and facilitate his journey towards recovery (Banham & Schweitzer, 2015). 3. Encourage the Kardashian family and Rob to participate in family interventions and therapy. Encourage them to participate in positive coping methods such as express feelings and use of support systems. Rationale: Examining therapeutic conversations between client’s family and client experiencing depression and their therapists may provide some insight into differential therapeutic processes that contribute to a client’s experience of recovery or alternatively continued deterioration whilst receiving psychotherapy (Banham & Schweitzer, 2015).

Outcomes •
Rob will verbalize increased selfacceptance through positive selfstatements about self to his family and friends. He will set realistic goals to achieve higher self-esteem with the help of his family and friends (Ackley & Ladwig, 2017).

Rob will demonstrate improved ability to interact with his family such as engaging in conversation and expressing thoughts and feelings. He will express effects of media on self-appraisal (Ackley & Ladwig, 2017).

Rob and his family will identify one strength or a healthy coping skill after each session of family therapy (Ackley & Ladwig, 2017).
