The intention of this urban intervention is to bring a new sense of civicness, culture and commerce to the underutilized edge of the Golden Horn. The Golden Horn is a large inlet that seperates “old and new� Istanbul and provides transportation, commerce and life to exist along its edges. A sports complex, ferry terminal, performance center, and new space for commerce along the roads busy edge have been added. The expansion will create new public amenities along the shore, in turn bringing people from the Balat neighborhood and people from other areas into a vibrant newly defined urban space.

Exploring Architectural Significance: Through a Proposal For The Boston Herald Master’s Thesis Southend, Boston 2010

As new technologies emerge and grant us conveniance old technologies are fazed out. This thesis project proposes a solution for the Boston Herald, an entity affected by new technology. By injecting the deteriorating newspaper building with, a “Herald Radio”, “Herald TV”, working printing museum with factory tour ending at a live broadcast room, and new office tower, the new Herald Media Complex becomes a significant moment along the citie’s to largest arteries. A media facade is in place facing Interstate 93 projecting information to the commuting public. Emitting information at a small scale of the museum and factory tour and at a large scale of the media screens the Herald Media Complex itself exemplifies its program as producing and distributing information.

Tropical Foods is a popular ethnic market at the intersection of Melnea Cass Blv and Washington St. The only prominent landmark of the crossing, marking the end of Dudley Square and beginning of the Southend. The intention of this urban renewal is to preserve the stores existing conditions by relocating it to the corner with living units above producing space for a farmers market, and urban gardening above. the existing structure will be filled with storage for the market, street level retail, leaseable office space, and live work units.

This new branch of public library takes advantage of the space between a school / youth center and municpal building filling in with another community friendly building. The library’s street front is open to the park opposite from with with expansive teers of deck, sitting, space, and room for community gatherings. Book stacks along with more intimate reading space are found with north light toward the back.
