Who’s been here before José Vinã – From Colombia, 22 years old, My experience in Brasilia was absolutely fantastic. The people, the landscape, the food, everything about Brazilian culture has left me in awe. AIESEC has done a great job of balancing the work with fun things.
I was worked at Tecnew Informatica, learning professionalism in a new country. It helped me grow a network, and learn about different cultures, I learned a lot of Portugues! I came with no real knowledge of Portugues, just a basic grasp on Spanish, kkk so thankfully it was a bit easier to get into "Romance Language Mode." Luckily, everyone was really patient and was taught me enough to get around on a daily basis. I definitely plan on learning more over the coming months so that one day I can return and be totally fluent with my old friends! Besides the obvious language learning though, this communication barrier was really good for me. As an professional, miscommunication is something that scares me a lot, so forcing myself to be okay with misunderstandings and being able to laugh at myself when weird things happen has been really good. I've learned a lot about myself and the world that way - the world is definitely a little smaller now, but some much more beautifully complex. I've learned firsthand how humanity can transcend nationality, skin tone, and language. It's been fantastic.
