By Salina Siu Thank you to all the Alumni members who came out to AlumNight 2010 and made it a huge success. This annual event is organized to celebrate our Alumni members and connect current and past AIESEC’ers. The celebration took place last Tuesday, November 16, 2010. We booked the bottom level of Kingston Taphouse and Grill and the atmosphere was fun and casual. With a total of 79 attendees, 34 of them being Alumni members, we almost hit maximum capacity of the venue. Everywhere you turned, there were groups of people laughing and getting to know each other. The free drink ticket for a beer or wine which was included with the event, definitely helped people relax after a long day of work. The event started off with a warm welcome and opening announcement by Julia Poissant, the Organizing Committee President of AlumNight and VP of Alumni Relations of AIESEC UBC. This was followed by an introduction of the SFU Alumni Association, sponsor of AlumNight for the second year in a row, presented by representative, Lien Yeung. Afterwards, trays of food were brought out to satisfy the hungry attendees. There were 14 different appetizers, including house made pizza, firecracker shrimp, calamari and spring rolls but honey garlic chili chicken drummettes seemed to be the crowd’s favourite. The food kept replenishing and there was more than enough at the end of the night. Our in-kind sponsor, Safeway also provided us with a cake as dessert to thank all of our wonderful Alumni members. ALUMNIGHT RECAP
Story continued from page 2
At this time, Local Committee updates were announced. Colleen Wong, President of AIESEC SFU, proudly announced that the newly elected Local Committee President for 2011 is Alex Juy, who is the current VP of Communications. SFU also had a very successful Fall recruitment of over 30 new members at SFU. Claudia Wong, President of AIESEC UBC stood next to Colleen and revealed that their Local Committee had booked 38 marketing calls and signed 2 TN’s this year. UBC hosted a successful Western Regional Conference in October and are looking forward to the upcoming Coastal Conference in February 2011. The event’s activities were concluded by drawing the raffle prize winners. There were 13 prizes up for grabs from our in-kind sponsors, The Boardroom, Daniel le Chocolat Belge, Starbucks, The Book Warehouse, Tucano Garden and White Spot. Finally, a video, which I created specifically for AlumNight was shown during closing announcements. If you were not able to attend, you can view the video on AIESEC SFU’s Youtube channel by clicking this link: http://t.co/kCieMZm Throughout the event, we also had an on-going pool tournament with seven teams. Each team was made up of one Alumni member and one student. After four rounds, the final match was between team Scott Shaw, UBC Alumni with teammate Joshua Sunga, VP of Corporate Relations at UBC and new incoming Local Committee President of 2011 playing against Bernie Hertel, UBC Alumni with

teammate Rochelle Eng, who is the Member Committee VP of Exchange, originally from AIESEC McGill. After a close battle, Scott Shaw and Joshua Sunga were declared the winners, collecting half of the buy-in money from the pool tournament. However, we had a sweet surprise for the first and second place teams, and presented them with boxes of cinnamon buns from our in-kind sponsor, Grounds for Coffee. Finally, I would like to give a BIG thanks to the rest of my Organizing Committee: Julia Poissant, our leader and President, Samantha Barker, who took care of finance and logistics and Eva Lam and May Lai, who worked together as VP of Sponsorship. This was a great experience and I learned a lot about working as a team in the past six months. I can’t wait to see how the Organizing Committee for next year will make this event bigger and better. To the Alumni members that attended the event, I hope you had a great time catching up your past AIESEC friends and meeting the new generation of AIESEC’ers. We look to you for advice and support and we appreciate your dedication in attending our events. To the Alumni members that could not attend, we hope to see you next time!
