EP Corner Hello! My name is Annisa Sesarila Hasrul. I'm from the Department
of Communication Studies at Andalas University. In January 2017 I joined the Red Herb 1.0 program held by AIESEC University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China. In this program I will study the issue of traditional Chinese medicine. When I joined this program, I learned many things. First, I am learn to wake up in the morning. Because I can not be late. Everything there is always on time, especially the transportation. For example, when I took the train from Ningbo to Shanghai, the departure time was 19.45 and it turned out that when I was inside the train the train actually went on at 19:45. This makes me think twice if I want to go everywhere, because if I'm late for a minute I've been left behind and also as long as I follow this project I also learn to be more independent, because all the things I do here alone, minus the problem of food. I also learned how to manage my finances better. But I'm little bit disappointed with this project. For many things that do not match the initial timeline given. And also, a lot of change plans that nobody was told before, so we should be able to adjust it.
But despite the many disappointments that existed when I was there, there were also many very pleasant things. Like, I can get to know my friends who are from different countries. I can see the cultural differences we have. We also often exchanged thoughts about everything from habit to politics. What I am going to remember now is when I go to a nursing home to give affection to people who are old and maybe some of them have no family anymore. I was touched when I washed the feet of one of the old men, and cut the nails of his hands and feet. At first I was scared because it would hurt him. In fact, I accidentally cut their skin a little until it bleeds. I was very panicked, but the grandfather just said it's okay in Chinese while smiling at me. It was like at that moment I wanted to cry because I remember my parents at home.
And also when my friends and I did promotion spaces for our corporate sponsors, even though we were annoyed we had to give flyers to people on the cold and deserted streets-because it was nearing the spring festival but the guy who drove us was very good, even giving us snacks for our wear after giving flyers. And there are many more unforgettable moments during my time there, and I also can not describe everything so much. Overall, I feel very happy and grateful I'm following this program.
