Best Legal Recruitment Agency - London Larbey Evans are a niche legal recruitment consultancy who specialise in sourcing business services, eDisclosure, document review and management talent for UK, US and international law firms, along with in-house legal departments. We spoke to the Directors, Adele Evans and Damian Larbey, to discuss what makes the company so successful. Aside from strategic recruitment campaigns, Larbey Evans conduct confidential remuneration advice, payroll service solutions, comprehensive annual salary and benefit reviews, benchmarking data, key-topic seminars, career guidance and candidate testing along with impactful advertising campaigns and ad-hoc project assistance upon request. The Directors outline the firm’s overall mission, what sets them apart and their plans for the year ahead. “Larbey Evans was established in 2009 and to this day, our mission is to stand apart from a market that often lacks credibility, creating a transparent recruitment service for both clients and candidates based on trust whilst exhibiting best practice. Our working ethos and passion for what we do is inimitable, we are renowned for providing around-the-clock responsiveness and listening to what our market demands.” In a competitive industry such as legal recruitment, where clients greatly value talent, leadership, diversity and cultivate cultural integration, it is important for recruitment agencies to demonstrate they are the best possible option for clients. Adele tells us the

key factors which help the firm to stand out, demonstrating some unique strategies which work exceptionally well, but are unlikely found elsewhere in the market. “At Larbey Evans, we are experimental with “modernity”, from our outreach on social media to our agile working methodology within the office. We like to think that we fit in with our competitors, yet standout. We do not have targets in existence and do not set KPIs or cold-call prospective clients – all factors that make us highly unusual within the recruitment space.” Overall, Larbey Evans are unique in the way staff work and are always looking to keep up to date with advances in the industry, being proactive rather than reactive. Having recently rebranded the company, the future looks bright for Larbey Evans, as Damian concludes. “So far, 2017 has been a pivotal year for us. We launched our company rebrand and have significant projects and seminars in the pipeline with pioneering keynote speakers. We are looking to further maximise both eDiscovery / document review and payroll services and are excited for the opportunities this will afford us going forward.”

Best Non-Executive Search Consultancy – UK Established in 2003, The Orcid Partnership is a boutique board-level search firm. We profiled the company and spoke to Judy Atchison and Sue Tyrer to try and find out why the firm is so successful. Differentiated by its partner-led, passionately client focused and committed approach, the Orcid Partnership adds value through bringing insight and delivering fresh, diverse candidate choices and successful outcomes for their clients. Judy and Sue gave us an outline of the work that the firm does and how Partners deal with clients, finding the best approaches and solutions to meet their particular needs. “We work on a retained basis, in partnership with our clients to identify, engage, assess, appoint and develop, outstanding business leaders who fit culturally and deliver commercially. We advise global multi-nationals, SMEs, private and listed companies in the consumer, retail, B2B and service sectors on a broad range of executive and non-executive (NED) leadership positions.” All contact with potential candidates is handled by the Partners from start to finish, guaranteeing a high level of dialogue and engagement that may not always be found elsewhere, as Judy explains: “At the Orcid Partnership, our successful Board practice which Sue and I lead focuses on Chair and NED appointments. We have both worked in this area for over 20 years and have recruited Chairs and NEDs for

listed, private, family and mutual organizations, as well as sitting on numerous Boards ourselves. We offer a bespoke partner driven approach working with boards across a range of issues associated with board balance, succession planning, diversity, assessment and development.

“We recognise that Board members are shaping the future in a rapidly changing world and pride ourselves in identifying and assessing those Chairs and NEDs that are contemporary and able to support leaders in the digital age. We do not rely solely on past experience/track

record but interrogate carefully a candidate’s ability to perform in new and fast changing markets and environments. We pride ourselves on uncovering ‘hidden talent’ and the ability to attract first class individuals through representing the client’s brief in a compelling and informed

manner. This combined with our reputation for honesty and integrity enables us to deliver high calibre, diverse candidate choice. This we believe is the overriding reason that our clients retain and recommend The Orcid Partnership, with virtually all our business coming through personal referral.” The Board Practice has a strong Northern focus, and no other search firm in the region offers the strength and depth of knowledge of Orcid’s team. In terms of location, it combines strong national and international networks with exceptional local knowledge leading to a richer candidate pool. Sue outlines the firm’s approach and details what helps the company distinguish itself from its competitors: “Almost all our work comes via recommendation. We achieve outstanding results with an industry leading track record in terms of successful placement. We are committed to delivering a broad and diverse shortlist of candidates; original research on every appointment avoids recycling the usual suspects. Uniquely, our partners handle all aspects of every appointment.” “One of the key differences between Orcid and the rest of the industry is that all aspects of each assignment are personally handled by the Orcid Partners.  We tend to work on fewer assignments than would be the case in a typical search firm, and this means that we can invest more time delivering successful outcomes for each and every client we partner with. Whilst our industry is called ‘search’, we believe that where we really

make a difference and add value is when we help our clients to engage the right individual to support their strategic challenges - we support, up to the final appointment and beyond.”  As one of the co-founders of The Orcid Partnership, Judy outlines a little about the Orcid values and culture: “An open, client focused and collaborative working environment is integral to a successful business; everyone contributes ideas to ensure we continue to innovate and stay at the leading edge of changes in our sector. The business model and reward structure motivates Partners to invest more time on every project and to focus on doing the best for our clients.”

reward structure and award winning financial platform, which frees Partners from the usual bureaucratic and targetled constraints of search, and supports them to be totally focussed on delivering great work. We are also adopting a platform for digital client collaboration and investigating how to integrate additional new technology in a way which streamlines processes and adds value while continuing to enhance the client-focussed, relationship-led, and high-trust approach which is a key part of our DNA.”

“Internally we have adopted an innovative business model,

“Moving forward, our aspiration for the future is that The Orcid Partnership is recognised as a vibrant, committed team delivering outstanding results for our clients. We are moving towards this by creating best practice processes, tools and services, and an environment and reward structure which gives outstanding search Partners the support, inspiration and freedom to succeed.”

Best Interactive Entertainment Recruitment Agency - UK Austin James Recruitment is the exclusive resourcing partner for a number of key gaming studios around the world. We invited Senior Consultant, Craig McHugh to give us an overview of the company and discuss what it is that makes the firm so successful. Austin James Recruitment are the exclusive resourcing partner for a number of key gaming studios around the world. Focusing entirely on the games and interactive entertainment industry we currently fill positions within mobile, social and console. Through open and consistent communication with each candidate our team of experienced recruiters provide support though every phase of the recruitment process, providing honest guidance on every stage of the process including interview preparation, work trials and relocations. Underpinning every part of the process is the knowledgeable, friendly and efficient approach from each member of our team in order to deliver the best possible service and help our candidates make the right career move. Craig sets out the overall mission of the firm, detailing what steps the company will take in order to achieve these aims. “Ticking the boxes in terms of previous experience is only a small part of our selection process. Rather than being viewed as a traditional consultancy, Austin James has a truly integrated and fresh

approach to talent management which bridges the gap between in-house and agency recruitment. Our number one priority is to gain a deep understanding of each studios people, culture and strategy and thereby ensure all candidates put forward share a similar mind-set and career aspirations to that of the teams they are joining. From the initial approach to starting their new role, the communication to candidates is clear and consistent from both ourselves and the studio.” There are many important attributes that people will look for in order to be successful, and Craig lists what attributes he believes are the most important for anyone looking to succeed in recruitment. “In order to succeed in this industry, companies must have an authentic way of working coupled with a genuine interest and deep understanding of the current environment impacting the studio/company/industry in which you are recruiting for needs to be the forefront of everything you do. “Since 2009, we have spoken to many different people from a diverse range of backgrounds and skills in the games industry.

Having observed a large number of career paths over the years, we have arrived at the following formula which applies to both the candidates we work with as well as our consultants working at Austin James, enjoyment plus time equals skill.”

Naturally, there are challenges to overcome within recruitment, dealing with candidates and clients. Craig explains the main challenge the firm face and how staff work tirelessly to embrace the challenge and work hard to succeed.

Enjoyment is a key aspect of being successful in anything anyone does, not just the recruitment industry. Craig notes this as well as stating that if clients enjoy doing something, they are more likely to become better at it, and this is something to look out for on both sides with regard to the recruitment industry.

“Within the industry, our main challenge is finding candidates who are the right cultural fit for the employers we work with, matching skills and experience to available vacancies is the easy part. In gaining an understanding of our candidates’ personality and aspirations we are able to know which companies are right for them.”

“If you enjoy what you are doing you will continue to do it and in time you will become an expert in your area and skill and success will follow. Enjoyment is also directly proportional to skill, the more you enjoy something the better you will become at it. When gaining an understanding of our candidates we keep this in mind throughout our approach. Some candidates may be trying to find their enjoyment. Other job seekers may have had it previously and have lost it due to factors out of their control. The key is to find your enjoyment and once you have found it, keep it.”

Looking ahead, Craig predicts an exciting future ahead for Austin James as he outlines its aspirations. Helping other companies to grow by ensuring it can match the right candidate with the right company, Craig believes that the firm will continue to contribute in a positive way to the industry.

Broady Resourcing Best Technical & Sales Recruitment Agency North West England Broady Resourcing is a niche recruitment consultancy with a flexible working environment, employing consultants with years of experience behind them and an excellent track record. We invited Matthew Porteus to share the secrets behind the firm’s success and give us a fascinating overview of what the future has in store for the company. Established in 2013, Broady Resourcing specialise in recruiting for financial, technical and sales recruitment markets, placing hand-picked specialist candidates in permanent positions with a broad range of clients, including a number of leading Financial Services, and also emerging Brands in Fintech and IT Solutions. Matthew discusses the firm’s focus on excellence and how it works to ensure that everyone it works with receives the very highest standard of service and support that meets their needs. “At Broady Resourcing, we provide both contingency based recruitment and a retained service. We will go into the market and research it, and deliver a targeted shortlist of candidates to a client for a specific role, using both traditional marketing methods and advertising based search, along with more passive and

headhunting techniques utilising social media and our own database and contacts. “To ensure that clients receive the service they need, we offer a very ethical and transparent service to our clients, offering both contingency based recruitment and retained and executive search. As part of this client focused approach, we are extremely consultative and will advise on what the client needs, and sometimes on what they do not need.” This dedication to client service is reflected in the firm’s mission, which revolves around being reactive and adapting to meet the ever evolving needs of its clients, as Matthew explains. “Our mission is to service our clients to the best of our ability, and improve the life and careers of our candidates putting them into the right roles with the right companies. We achieve this by using a consultative approach,

putting both candidate and client first, and not the bottom line. “Operating in such a fast paced market, we are constantly looking at improving the way we work, whether this be researching and using the latest recruitment technologies and tools, or honing and refining our recruitment skills with in house and external training. It is always good to refresh your skills and not get complacent, an everyone can always learn something new, even after 20 years. Reading and keeping on top of industry related blogs and news articles, both on and off line, and generally keeping in touch with clients and candidates to understand what is going on in the market are all key to staying at the forefront of the latest industry developments and offering a truly cutting edge service.” One thing that is constant in recruitment is the need to employ dedicated and experienced staff. industry, but this is particularly true of recruitment, where firm’s need to hire and retain the very best staff so that they can show their clients that they are able to offer a great service. As such, Matthew is keen to highlight his firm’s exceptional internal culture and supportive working environment. “Internally, our culture is very professional and relaxed, we are not KPI driven and encourage everyone to be involved and contribute to the development of Broady Resourcing. We work hard, but in a relaxed and grown up environment. We provide the best training, both in house helping and developing each other on the job, and also provide access to external. Additionally, we also equip our staff with the latest recruitment tools, and we listen to anything else they may need and provide this where possible. “Fundamentally, it is our staff that sets us apart from our

competitors and marks us out as the best possible option for our clients. Our commitment, drive and passion to always be the best, and go above and beyond are what make us the perfect partner for our clients and we are very proud of each and every member of our workforce.” Currently the firm has many opportunities as the recruitment market in the UK is at an invigorating stage. Matthews shares his knowledge on the industry and the developments that it is undergoing at present. “The market is buoyant in our region presently, as there are

lots of opportunities out there to help both clients find that great candidate, and help that great candidate find the right job. It is a very competitive landscape with companies vying against each other to secure the best candidates, which always makes our work both challenging and interesting.” Looking ahead, Matthew believes that despite the changes that technology is making to the recruitment agency, Broady Resourcing’s ongoing focus on providing a top quality service will ensure that the company remains successful

and continues to grow and achieve. “Moving forward, it is my belief that technology and new recruiting techniques will continue to change how recruitment is done, however the core of how we recruit regardless of the tools will always stay the same. As long as we remember our core values and ethics, and continue to do recruitment the right way, I don’t believe we will need to step around anything. “Overall our future is bright and strong. We will continue to provide a first-class service to both our clients and candidates,

and will be looking in the coming years to grow the business gradually, taking on more consultants and moving into new markets.”
