The nursing movement is enjoying a moment in the spotlight after a spate of celebrities have recently uploaded photos of their feeding and expressing regimes to their social media pages. Despite the benefits and the beauty of these images, most mothers would agree the reality of expressing is not quite so glamourous! Many mothers give up breastfeeding due to its impracticalities, particularly when returning to work, so the promise of a new wonder product is seriously exciting stuff. The founders of Elvie, the world's first silent wearable breast pump, promise to bring women's technology out of the dark ages, and they make very bold claims about the Elvie Pump;

It uses revolutionary technology to eliminate noise, so you can express in peace, anytime, anywhere. Too good to be true? LUX put it to the test…

At first glance the Elvie Pump looks impressive; it feels more like you’re unwrapping a brandnew iPhone than a breast pump! It’s not only sleek, compact and lightweight, but also incredibly easy to set up and assemble, connecting effortlessly with your smartphone, which is an absolute must in order to take full advantage of the remote-control function. Once the six parts are assembled it fits inside your nursing bra and can be controlled remotely from your smartphone via the Elvie app. The app allows you to monitor milk volume in real time, track pumping history for each breast and adjust the settings. The pump has two modes, stimulation and expression, and it will switch between these when it detects let-down. As it gives a live status on milk volume, it will also pause when the bottle is full, and a message will notify you on the app. In terms of discretion, the pump isn’t technically silent, but it is as close as possible. You could easily sit in a meeting or go out for a coffee with nobody being any the wiser. Although it is smaller than a traditional pump, it does require some covering up if you don’t want to be spotted, but that’s easily managed with an oversized jumper of a strategically placed scarf! The main beauty of the pump is that its hands free; this is a serious game changer for mothers who are returning to work and don’t have time to hide away, hooked up to the mains for their lunch hour! With all of these benefits, you might assume that there would be sacrifice of some sorts, but if there is we haven’t found it. When positioned correctly the pump seems to be gentler but even more efficient than the leading traditional pumps on the market. It takes around two hours to fully charge and this provides you with around two and a half hours of power. If you forget to charge the pump the night before, the USB charging cable makes it super flexible to charge on the go – be that in the car or even via your laptop. When purchasing the single pump you receive the hub, a USB charging cable, two 5oz/150ml bottles and the various components to fit around this, two different sized breast shields and two bra adjusters, which can be easily attached to a nursing bra. This all retails for £249 with a two-year warrant on the hub. In conclusion, this pump seriously gets the LUX seal of approval, the post-natal world is brimming with elaborate inventions from mumpreneurs, if only they were all as impressive as this one! There may be cheaper alternatives on the market, but we firmly believe this is a great example of the age old, you get what you pay. What else do we love about Elvie? EcoViking: Luxury Baby Nests for the Modern Parent EcoViking was created to address a rather obvious gap in the parent and baby market: a need for a traditional baby nest that is both simple and stylish - Something that would feel right at home in modern residences. We spoke with EcoViking’s CEO and Founder, Stefan Bosnjak, to find out more about the company’s inspirations, ethos and future. Baby nests are becoming a popular choice for today’s parents and have, in recent years, overshadowed the popularity of the Moses basket as the firm favourite for daytime naps. Spinning out from the wildly popular offerings of EcoViking and their eco-friendly glass baby bottles, EcoViking have developed a baby nest that has swiftly become a go-to for parents that want an altogether more mature alternative to the baby nests of years passed. With its simple Scandinavian lines and warm tones, EcoViking’s baby nest certainly appeals to a high-end market, which was -of courseentirely by design, as Stefan explains. “Most of the baby nests and pods sold today have childish motives and don’t ‘fit’ in our homes. With the birth of my first daughter, I started the development of a new baby nest that would cover that gap in the market: a baby nest that would fit and be a part of the archetypal Scandinavian home décor. During 2019 we finally reached the end of the three years long journey, just in time for the birth of my second daughter, the very first user of the new EcoViking baby nest. And that is how it all began.

It is crucial to establish a high level of trust with any potential client and continue that through beyond product purchase. For EcoViking, customer care remains the crux of the company, securing their position as one of the most trusted businesses working in the industry. “We always aim to create a good experience as we believe it creates loyal customers. Of course, not all customers will return for a new baby nest, but they will tell the story to their friends, neighbours and so on. Moreover, we are also extending the range of items that will make our customer wants to return to us for a second purchase. Customer-first focus is very important for us and when customers have questions or concerns, they want resolutions right away, especially when they purchase an item for their new-born. Being available at all times to offer fast support to our customers means creating a strong brand experience.” This level of customer service finds its roots, predictably, in the dynamic of EcoViking’s team, as Stefan continues. “Since the foundation of EcoViking, me and my team have been working very closely making sure we keep developing excellent working relationships. We address all issues immediately and we keep moving on. My team knows what I stand for and that standardization and follow-up is of key importance for growth and it keeps us on track.” Stefan describes EcoViking as a joint venture into the baby market and the baby fashion industry, emphasising the importance of appearance on their entire product line – a combination of form and function, not just the latter. We do welcome regulation as there are a number of companies out there making dangerous products that do not follow the standards that we stringently follow.”

When it comes to EcoViking’s future, there wasn’t much that Stefan could discuss in light of upcoming launches: “We are developing a new line of baby nests with exchangeable covers which will be released very soon.” However, Stefan was keen to touch on his other efforts in the sustainable space, offering a natural extension to EcoViking’s core ethos. “We are just about to release a new brand in a totally different industry – Sweden’s first electric scooters company. Keep an eye out for Veio Scooters, which you will see on the road pretty soon.”
