Panasonic is leading the change on adopting renewable energy sources, announcing that in 2018 it will make a full switch to R32. Panasonic will consolidate its residential and commercial airconditioning ranges with less than 3kg of refrigerant, including its newly designed RAC floor consoles, ducted, compact cassettes and multi splits, to be compatible with R32. As a partner with Panasonic, AMP will be supporting the firm in achieving this focus as it looks towards a bright and exciting future filled with possibilities. Phil concludes by exploring Panasonic’s environmental vision and how her firm will play a part in achieving this.
“Here at AMP, our commitment to reliability, support and technical knowledge means we are the chosen partners for air conditioning contractors, consultants and major end users alike. We pride ourselves on providing quality products and expert technical support. “While the global attention is being paid to the social issues surrounding the environment and energy is intensifying, the focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations and the Paris Agreement—through which a number of countries allied together to work towards global warming prevention—indicates the seriousness of these issues worldwide. “Also, in the World Economic Forum held in January 2018, where political and economic leaders from across the world gathered, the issues concerning the environment and energy, such as climate

Offering services ranging from demolition and asbestos removal, civil engineering to transport, skip hire, trade waste Build 2018 Recycling & Waste construction Management and Awards and plant hire, and with waste management depots in Gloucestershire, Bristol and South Wales, Smiths are able to provide the consumer with the complete solution to suit a variety of needs.
Fundamentally, the firm’s sole aim as a Waste Management operator is to maximise recycling thereby diverting material from landfill. Specifically, the firm focus on all discarded materials that have been declared as a waste by a ‘waste producer’. Smiths endeavour to improve the waste material (upcycle), and limit the landfill feedstock. This is achieved by utilising mechanical and manual processes to facilitate a cost-effective resource recovery methodology thereby succeeding in their aim to improve the environment.
“Aware that society’s expectations of the role of corporations in resolving these global social issues is rising, Panasonic formulated the Panasonic Environment Vision 2050 in 2017 to determine our own initiatives in responding to the expectations and requests from our stakeholders. The Environment Vision 2050 means to work towards creation and more efficient utilisation of energy which exceeds the amount of energy used, aiming for a society with clean energy and a more comfortable lifestyle. “Currently, relative to the amount of energy used (energy used in our operation, and energy used by products in consumer use), the amount of energy created (clean energy that is created and/or made available by products and services by Panasonic, such as photovoltaic power generation systems, storage batteries, and energy solutions) is merely one-tenth.

It is fair to say that waste management and recycling are a moving feast with regards to legislative changes; whether they be fire regulations, WEEE regulations, end of life vehicle regulations or recycling. Smiths adapt easily to this ever changing profile of legislation, by employing specialist managers who are formally trained and experienced within the world of environmental compliance. Response from Peter Jukes Waste Management Divisional Manager at Smiths: “Post Brexit, refuse derived fuel from waste exports are rumoured to become taxed meaning that recycling exports would be more challenging. 2019 Recycling & Waste Management Awards
M&M Skip Hire Limited T/A M&M Waste Solutions has been supplying households, commercial properties, developers, builders, construction companies, industry and colleges with waste collections throughout Oxfordshire for the past 46 years. We invited Matt Wright to tell us more about the firm and the range of service it has to offer. ince inception M&M has worked hard to offer its customers quality service at competitive rates, all whilst maintaining a genuine commitment to recycling and protecting the environment. Matt explores how this is achieved thanks to the firm’s commitment to excellence, client service and sustainability.

“At M&M, we have a purpose-built Materials Recycling Facility and Waste Transfer Station at Worton Park near Cassington, just off the A40, 2 miles from the Oxford ring road and around 4 miles from Oxford City Centre. We are in a prime position to receive waste via major road networks and minimise pollution of the environment by cutting out unnecessary journeys.
In 2018 M&M have made a significant investment in plant and equipment. A new static process plant has been installed which is capable of operating at a throughput of 80 tonnes per hour with

commercial, industrial and construction wastes. The plant consists of a series of walking floor feeds, sizing screens, fines lines, manual picking stations, magnets, optical sorting machines and density separation. The whole configuration of the plant has been designed to optimise material recovery for reuse and recycling. To assist with this process and to ensure that recycling is optimised a new Untha RS100 four shaft, slow speed shredder has been installed to reduce the size of bulk and over size items prior to feeding the
material into the process line. The shredder has a number of sizing screens which are interchangeable and can be used for different feed stocks. The shredding process liberates all recoverable materials from each other which ensures that the plant can recover clean recyclable items and maintain good off-take standards for the materials entering the recycling market. The shredder and the plant are designed to operate in a number of different configurations. The shredder can operate online or offline and the plant can operate in different independent modes or as one whole line thus allowing preventative and scheduled maintenance to take place without interrupting production. Such developments have helped the firm to enhance its success, but Matt is keen to highlight how the company remains committed to excellence and compliance even as the firm expands.
“From this site we operate a fleet of 24 collection vehicles comprising of skip lorries, Rollon-off lorries and small collection vans. The fleet operates to the highest standards and we demonstrate this by
“To ensure that we maintain our high standards as our business grows, we have implemented and achieved ISO Certification for Quality ISO 9001, Environment ISO 14001 and Safety OHSAS 18001 audited by British Standards Institution. The commitment to maintain these standards ensures that our customers can remain confident that their waste is handled responsibly.” With regards to the future, Matt is confident that M&M will continue to offer its clients the exceptional level of service that they have come to rely on, as he is proud to conclude.
“Looking ahead, we are continuing to invest in processes, plant and people to ensure that we continue to deliver our service to our exacting standards and to remain at the forefront of technology enabling us to continue to improve our environmental performance. We are totally committed to reducing landfill tonnages, preserving the environment for the future and to a cleaner, greener Oxfordshire.”
