AIHM remains dedicated to the call to transform the way we think about health & health care in our society. 2 | www.aihm.org
This year marked significant positive change and progress for the integrative health community as well as for the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine. As I stepped into the ED position this year, I was reminded of our AIHM Board President, Mimi Guarneri’s 2014 call to establish a new paradigm when she said “the formation of AIHM is a bold response to a call to action for change—to transform the way we think about health and health care. The Academy is a home to a broad international community of healthcare practitioners and health seekers connected by a shared holistic philosophy of person-centered care, who also recognize the link between our health and the state of the planet.”
300 other San Diego organizations. At the national level we worked collaboratively with many organizations including the Integrative Health Policy Consortium, the Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health, the American Public Health Association and the Medical Society Consortium on Climate & Health to move forward integrative health initiatives. Our AIHM Membership and Regional Chapters grew and we added new benefits through collaborations with organizations like Tap Integrative and InnoVision.
AIHM remains committed to that call— to building a global interprofessional community of individuals, organizations, and collaboratives that are dedicated to creating solutions to the health challenges we face as a society. Our work in 2018 focused on educating those future healthcare leaders and growing our global network.
As we look into the future, we are facing multiple health issues that call for holistic solutions: burnout, the opioid crisis and climate change, for example. AIHM will continue to forge a path that creates health for all—our patients, our providers and our planet. I am so honored to share with you the incredible 2018 accomplishments of AIHM and to serve this inspiring community.
AIHM graduated 71 healthcare providers through our Integrative Health and Medicine Fellowship program, sending clinicians back into their communities with new skills to care for their patients and a new outlook to help transform their health systems. Our Annual People Planet Purpose Conference was the largest yet, bringing people from across professions to learn, engage and connect. To deepen our relationship with our local community we became a LiveWell San Diego recognized partner joining over

In September of 2018 at the AIHM Annual People Planet Purpose Conference, our San Diego Student Alliance hosted a luncheon with students from MD, DO, ND, DAOM, RN and RD programs. The next generation of clinicians are eager to learn from one another and seek ways to collaborate to improve patient care.
Minority Health Luncheon Minority Leaders Join Forces with AIHM
In collaboration with leaders from Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) and the Minority Health Institute (MHI), AIHM hosted its first Minority Health Forum to identify needs and opportunities that may inform how we move forward collaboratively to reduce health disparities. Dr. Rick Kittles, professor and founding director of the Division of Health Equities at the City of Hope (COH) served as guest facilitator for a panel of clinician leaders who provided presentations on health issues facing minority and underserved populations. The forum attracted an overflow of conference attendees and community leaders engaging in an interactive dialogue on how to enhance collaborations and raise awareness.
