INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE This log book is to be kept up-to-date and is to be produced when attending medical examinations and when obtaining a renewal, alteration or extension of an existing licence and new certificate of experience.
8 1 0 2
The entries in “Medical’, “Licences held” and “Ratings held” are to be made in ink and signed by the holder; other entries may be written in ink or indelible pencil. The address of the holder in “personal contact details” must be kept up to date as necessary during the currency of the log book.
P U O
The particulars of every flight, during the course of which the holder acts as a member of the operating crew, are to be recorded in the appropriate columns using one line for each flight. If the aircraft carries out a number of flights on the same day returning on each occasion to the same place of departure and the interval between successive flights does not exceed thirty minutes, such a series of flights may be recorded by a single entry. The time of departure and arrival should be recorded as the times the series of flights started and ended respectively. The difference between these times should be the total duration of the flight.

Day and Night
A T H
The columns headed “Day” and “Night” are provided so that separate records may be kept of the times the holder acted in the capacity by day and night respectively. If a flight is carried out partly by day and partly by night, the flying times entered in these columns should represent an appropriate division of the total time of duty during the flight.

CO
Whenever two members acting in the same capacity share a particular operating duty, each performing the duty for particular periods only and neither acting under the supervision of the other, the departure and arrival times must be entered in the normal way. In the column “Day” or “Night”, as appropriate, the precise time during which the holder acted in the capacity indicated must be shown and a note inserted in the “Remarks” column to indicate that the duties were shared. Role of Pilot The alternative columns provided in the divisions “Day” and “Night” and headed “PIC”, “Co-Pilot” and “Dual” facilitate the separate awarding of the flying hours, during which the holder acted in a particular operating capacity independently and those during which the duties were performed under supervision. When an aircraft carries two or more pilots as members of the operating crew one of them shall, before the flight commences, be designated by the operator of the aircraft as Captain.
Their name shall be entered in the column headed “PIC”. If the holder of the log book is the Captain, the word “Self” shall be entered in that column. A pilot’s flying time shall be entered as “PIC” if it is performed when the pilot is flying as Pilot in Command of the aircraft; they are entitled to enter the full duration of the flight. A pilot flying as Pilot in Command under supervision shall enter the flying time acquired in this manner in the “PIC” column and annotated with the remark “PICUS”. This is countersigned in each instance by the Captain of the aircraft concerned. The flying time entered as “Co-Pilot” will in all cases be the precise period of duty, as determined by the Captain of the aircraft, during which the holder acted in the course of the flight in the capacity of Co-Pilot. Student Pilot in Command (SPIC) refers to flight time when a trainee acts as Pilot in Command on a flight with an instructor, where the latter only observes. The trainee’s SPIC flight time must be verified by the instructor’s signature in the remarks column against each SPIC flight. Other Flight Time Columns

Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) is used to record flight time conducted under Instrument Flight Rules. This may include taxiing time.
A T H
Instrument Flight Time (IFT) is used to record the time during which a pilot is controlling an aircraft in flight solely by reference to instruments. Taxiing time is not included in this column. The time spent in Flight and Navigation Procedures Trainers (FNPT) or simulators must not be recorded in this column, but should be entered in the “Simulated Training Entries” pages.
G I R PY
Pilot in Command - Navigation (PIC-Nav) is used to record solo cross-country and SPIC cross-country flight time.
CO
Flight Instructor (FI) is used to record any flight time conducted as a qualified instructor training a student pilot. Multi-Pilot (MP) is used to record flight time conducted when operating as part of a multi-pilot crew. Additional The “Remarks” column may be used for making references to a syllabus or flight event. For example, a pilot may wish to label the flight as “Practice Forced Landings”, “Navigation Solo” or provide a brief description of other matters relating to the flight.
