ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO SELECTED WORKS 2012-2015

“ Architectural behaviourlogy

inspires me to study and understand my surroundings, and thus

create spaces that are more commonality-based, spaces that engage the public. Architecture should seek to change and inspire others. By observing people, climate and buildings, we shape our buildings and in turn, the buildings also shape who we are. Creating a better space for community contributes to better lives, and that is my raison d’etre

The 1.1 PAVILION is a group project which involves a scale 1:1 model

with an approximate size of 3mx3m3m . A skeletal structure with a teardrop base is designed by applying the elements of STRIPS, FOLDING, and

RHYTHM. 15mm plywood were used due to better stability and hardness. Slotting methods are applied as main connections while bolts and nuts are used for minor parts. This project focuses on understanding form, space, function on a real-life scale.

NAC

semester 4

The site is located in Pekan Sepang, next to

the Environmnetal Interpretive Centre (EIC). The EIC is a jointly managed by Malaysian Nature Society, which aims to educate the public on enviromental awareness. The site is rich with mangrove and herbs, which makes it a potential site for a Nature Appreciation Centre (NAC). Via the concept of BOUNDARIES, the NAC focuses on bringing exterior into the interior and vice versa. By implementing open spaces and boardwalks, visitors are able to interact with nature, hence increasing awareness towards the environment. The spatial sequence is like a journey, characterised by its multiple pathways. The centre acts as an educational hub to educate students and adults alike regarding the importance of preservation.

ASIAN MARKET Sem 5

Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur,

Jalan Tun H.S Lee is a site that is rich with heritage and culture. Local cultural hubs such as Central Market and Petaling Street are located within close proximity. The purpose of this project is to design an urban infill market which fits the diverse context of Jln Tun H.S Lee. Site analysis shows that immigrants are a majority on site. Thus, the Asian Market aims to address the needs of the immigrants, and to introduce their food and culture to the local people, in order to promote bonding between foreigners and locals. The concept of this design is the alleyhouse typology from Shanghai. The market simulates the communal living and closeknit community in an alleyhouse. The market also maintains the horizontality and verticality as seen on the neighbouring blocks. The facade resembles frames, further emphasizing the block individuality. Site location plan

FOOD AID CENTRE Sem 6

The focal point of SS2 is the commercial hub,

which is dominated by restaurants, banking centres and retails. The highest percentage of waste in SS2 is organic waste, which includes leave trimmings and food waste. Although the 3Rs concept is practiced within SS2, this does not apply to organic waste due to low awareness. The Food Aid Centre is a non-profit centre that operates as a food bank for charitable homes around Petaling Jaya. The centre aims to supply healthy, well-balanced meals to the welfare and to make use of surplus food. The centre acts as a hub to increase awareness regarding food waste, composting and urban farming. Site location plan
