Hey guys and gals! I want to introduce a segment where each month we find someone who has just gotten accepted to The Art Institutes, no matter where they are. This particular accepted student is from California. Her name is Anita Fakehinde. Here’s how our interview went: AiMag: So, what high school did you attend in your home town? Anita Fakehinde: I attended Terra Linda High School in San Rafael. Ai: What is your intended career? Anita: Fashion Design Ai: Why Fashion Design? Anita: Well, I’ve always loved anything fashion based. I love telling people what to wear and how to wear it. For example, matching colors together. I tried teaching myself how to sew, but it wasn’t a success. Ai: I completely understand. I have class where I learned how to use a sewing machine. Kind of a challenge. (Anita chuckles) But anyway, where do you want to attend college? Anita: (still laughing): The Art Institute of California-San Francisco Ai: Awesome! So, how did you get into fashion? Anita: My mom and the media Ai: Cool. When did you begin sketching? Anita: At the age of 13, so about 5 years ago. Ai: That’s when I started to sketch, around that age. Anita: How old were you? Ai: About, 12 or 13. I would do it randomly. Drawing clothes for plus-sized girls. At that age, I was a big girl and had to basically wear older women’s clothing at some points. Hated. Anita: (chuckles) Well you look beautiful now. Ai: More about you. So, how did you hear about The Art Institutes? Anita: The media Ai: You spend a lot of time on the internet. (Anita smiles) So, of course you’ll attend the one in San Francisco, right?
Anita: Yes ma’am. Ai: So polite. Do you have a favorite designer? If so, who and why? Anita: Yes I do. Michael Kors! I love how his designs are original and fantastic. Let me just say his designs are unique. (We both laugh) Ai: Random question: If you could have lived in your favorite decade, what would it be? Anita: Well I have to two favorite decades. Today’s and the 1900s. Ai: Why the 1900s? Anita: I love the flappers and costumes used in that time frame. Ai: So more of the 1920s, huh? Anita: (nods) And the reason why today’s fashion is my favorite it’s simply because I love the ideas that are being put out. Ai: Hmm, I agree. So, 10 years in the future, what do you see yourself doing? Anita: I see myself opening a boutique filled with my designs and designing for designers. Ai: Last question, do you have any advice for future college students? Anita: Be sure what you choose as a career is what you really love to do and see yourself doing it and always have faith in yourself. Do NOT let anyone try to bring you down.
