Quoting our employees

Use the person’s full name and title (e.g., “xxx xxx,” said Mark Little, President and Chief Executive Officer) the first time they’re being quoted. Don’t call out the company if it’s a Suncor news release or other companybranded document. For all additional quotes from the same person, use only their last name for external use (e.g., “xxx xxx,” said Little) and first name for internal use (e.g., “xxx xxx,” says Mark).

Attributing quotes

Use present tense (e.g., “xx,” says Mark) everywhere except for news releases and certain financial or disclosure documents (e.g., “xx,” said Mark).

Accompanying captions

For group or team images, identify only the people shown, not who’s missing. Call out job titles only if they’re referenced elsewhere. All captions should be in present tense, using proper punctuation.

Suncor vs. Suncor Energy

Use Suncor instead of Suncor Energy everywhere except for news releases and legal documents. For the latter, start with Suncor Energy for the first mention and then switch to Suncor.
