What we love

The perfect balance between bright and stylish.

‘It gets the sun all day and is such a light, bright, happy place to be.’ ‘This is how I love to live,’ says freelance interior stylist Aimee Tarulli when describing the heart of her Melbourne home: the living and dining room. Its versatility, open-plan design, and clear route to the alfresco deck makes it a busy hub for family life with Aimee, husband Frank, and 19-month old son Leo spending most of their time here. ‘It gets the sun all day and is such a light, bright, happy place to be,’ she says. By investing in minimal and contemporary furniture, Aimee has laid a smart foundation for hero hues to punctuate. A large Ali McNabneyStevens artwork that bursts with colour connects the two zones and plays mood

board for the room’s palette. ‘I chose a couple of unexpected shades from the artwork to inspire the rug and accessories, it really sets the tone for this space,’ she says. Aimee relished the opportunity to play with colour and texture when it came to furnishing. You’ll find a creamy grey couch alongside a striking watermelon side table, and a felt ottoman nestled nearby a marble coffee table. ‘I’m totally obsessed with marble and felt, so was very happy it all worked out nicely,’ she says. If she could do it all over again, a darker couch would be the winning hit. ‘I fell in love with this light grey couch before we had Leo. Fast

forward to living with a toddler that climbs all over it and I can see it would have been smarter to go a few shades darker,’ she notes. With Aimee’s keen eye for bright and bold design, we’re excited for what comes next in this space. ‘I’d like to update my dining chairs, they were an interim solution that seems to have stayed. I’d love to invest in my dream Muuto Nerd chairs in grey with one blush colour at either end. Everything else I love and can’t see myself changing any time soon.’
