THE VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM
THE VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM IN SPAIN 2018 International Experiences that Transform
Letter from the General Director, Ana Eseverri
I want to share with you a few words about AIPC Pandora, the organization I founded 15 years ago together with a group of experienced and committed professionals from different backgrounds, with the desire to expand international education in Spain. In my case I began my experience in international education at the age of 14 and since I participated in my first program, my interest for the world and its citizens has never stopped growing. I very quickly understood the complexity of intercultural understanding and at the same time the crucial importance of its achievement. It is also true that many times I asked myself if education alone was sufficient to ensure global peace, and even under the current complex circumstances, my answer is always yes. Maybe the problem is that education is still not accessible to everyone, and only a small part of the young population has the possibility to participate in international education. AIPC Pandora’s goal is to make this type of non-formal and experiential education accessible to as many young people as possible around the globe. We network with the biggest international platforms, we take an active role in the main European programmes that allow the creation of innovative programs, and we strive to innovate by creating as many opportunities as possible both in Spain and in the 57 counties where our programs take place.
ABOUT AIPC PANDORA:
AIPC Pandora is a non-profit organization, working in non-formal education through international experiences with local communities in some of the 54 countries in which we are present. Since 2002, AIPC Pandora's work has focused on arranging international itineraries for humanitarian, educational, intercultural or work and travel programmes. Our programs include the entire cycle of each project and accompany the volunteer before, during and after the international experience.

Because we are fully committed to experiential education, and its full integration into formal education. Until this happens, our mission is to fill this gap by offering the most advanced and innovative international programs in non-formal education.
OPTIONAL SPANISH CLASSES: THE SPANISH LANGUAGE AND THE METHODOLOGY USED
§ MADRID Spanish language learning is transversal in all our programs. Some of the programs strength this component and in these cases, we work with a language school co-op focused on making learning a language an experience that goes much further than the classroom. We're convinced that to learn a language, two things are fundamental: curiosity about the cultural context in which the language is spoken; and real life practice using the linguistic tools that are acquired by the learner. In other words to speak and listen to those who live within the given linguistic community. Our method advocates a pedagogical method that jumps from the classroom to the street and vice versa. We make the most of all that a city like Madrid has to offer, in order to generate debates about what is happening around us and what concerns us as a society- economic crises, new forms of politics, nationalisms, globalisation, diversity, etc.-using techniques and tools to create an eminently communicative, comprehensible classroom, and to work with more grammatical content as well as provoke a participative environment: theatre, videos, debates, exams in the street, visits to cultural centres, games and a lot of interaction.
We don't use textbooks. For the mentoring of students outside of class we use a personalized online tool oriented to maintain constant communication between teachers and students. This interactive resource permits this monitoring before and after the class, and includes the interactive download and editing of materials that are dealt with in each particular course. Our native teachers, as well as being experts in the language, are educated in different fields such as: history, economics, social sciences, theatre, anthropology, art and politics. They will take charge of transferring all of this diverse knowledge to the courses, with the objective of providing an integral learning experience that goes way beyond simply learning a language. All the programs can include a complementary language course. It won't be a course separated from the rest of the experience of the group program, in fact completely the opposite- we will practice language models and content in class that you can use to make the most of all the programmed activities and visits during your trip. The participants will have the chance to share their work and contribute to the process of improvement of these Glocal issues. Participants will be divided into small groups to work on the The Volunteering Program - www.aipc-pandora.org incoming@aipc-pandora.org Contact person: Valentina Paris +34 915 502 628

different challenges. These groups will remain together in Valencia during the implementation phase. VALENCIA Situated in the heart of Valencia, the Spanish School is located just a few minutes’ walk from the most important touristic sites and shopping area. Multiple public transport options are also available nearby. §
We believe that the best way to learn is through a practical and personal way. To achieve this, our experienced teachers organize classes tailored to each individual’s interests and abilities. Our classes are as original and unique as each one of you. Therefore, our teachers gain a deep understanding of students’ strengths and weaknesses, providing them with diverse and personally relevant material. While conversation and putting the language into practice serves as the basis for the student’s day-to-day learning, we also access resources from various publishers, ELE, and original designed materials. Written work at home will reflect and reinforce classroom content. Lastly, each student determines the dynamic of their learning experience, so we remain flexible in order to guide their learning accordingly. We present all the necessary tools, at the appropriate time, so that students not only excel in reaching their learning goals, but surpass them as well. Teaching from a practical point of view allows one to naturally assimilate grammar, sentence structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, and intonation. We believe that learning should occur in the most natural way possible.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Spain is a country were solidarity and social services are important, for the public administration as well as for the civil society; there are many NGOs, receiving public or private support, taking care of different causes all around the country. We work through the Global Service learning educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service in order to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning experience while meeting societal needs. AIPC Pandora collaborates with a large network in Spain where our volunteers will be involved in projects related to education, health, environment or social development, among other activities. Every project is different as is every volunteer, so we will do our best to find the place and the projects that best fit their expectations.

EDUCATION
Description: A kindergarten where we strive every day in creating a familiar, warm and happy surrounding for the full development of the children. We believe that for an adequate growth there must be a perfect attunement between the education and the habits that a child receives in the family environment and which is taught at the school. That’s why we have a very warm and approachable environment for the school to be a rich prolongation of the life at home. We offer a multilingual environment in English, Spanish and Valencian. We consider that growing up with several languages since a young age, in a natural way, makes learning a new language effortless. In the kindergarten, we offer a multilingual program in English, Spanish and Valencian because as many studies have proven, being exposed since birth to more than one language is very beneficial for the child for his intellectual, emotional and social development. And supporting this idea we have created multilingual environment. That is why during the whole day children are spoken in the three languages, having special emphasis in the use of English.
