President’s Message

Message from the President

This has been another eventful hockey season! With the season abruptly ending with the global pandemic, coronavirus, I hope our athletes, volunteers and family stay safe. Another significant event this year was the departure of Airdrie Minor Hockey Association’s president Cliff Gunther. Unfortunately Cliff resigned from his role in July of 2019 due to health reasons. I was secretary on the board at the time and stepped up to try and help out any way I could. Luckily I am surrounded by a great team!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cliff for working so hard, and making so many positive changes for AMHA. I’d like to thank Evan Hayter, Ryan Stone and Ed Jessome for being there for me along this crazy ride. And I would especially like to thank Cindy Kunitz for supporting me and the EC as we bumble along. I would also like to welcome and thank the newest members to the team, Donna Fuller and Carol Luterbach. Despite the sudden end to the season, I think the season was a great one! I hope you do too.

I would also like to give a shout out to all our board members, all the directors and co-ordinators out there doing the work to get the season up and running and moving it along. I would also like to thank the coaches, assistant coaches and managers who often thanklessly give of themselves and their time to provide a great experience to the children. The volunteers are the backbone of our association. Thank you very much for all you do! I appreciate it very much.

Cliff implemented two committees for this season, the Evaluations Committee and the Goalie Development Committee. The evaluations process was greatly improved based on the committees’ recommendations and specific goalie development was made available this season. I am glad that we were able to continue with these committees and make some positive changes for the 2019-2020 season. For the 2020-2021 season we are hoping to continue along this trend, forming new committees to focus on player and coach development, and some other interesting committees – so watch for that! Next season will be a great one for sure! Everyone will be so excited to be back playing the best game ever!

Finally, I would like to thank our young athletes and their families. It is for you that we do all this. Thank you for being part of our association, our hockey family. The game of hockey is an extraordinary game that gives us all so much. I am very fortunate to be part of Airdrie Minor Hockey Association; thank you #golightning #lightningstrikes! Christie Cameron
