Why You Need To Regularly Clean Your Humidifier If you want your humidifier to stay in tip-top shape and running properly, you’ll need to regularly clean it. Without the right care, the humidifier won’t last as long as it could. But the most important reason why a humidifier needs to be properly cared for is because you risk spreading harmful bacteria and mold into your home’s air. Without proper cleaning, the water in the humidifier will just sit in the tank. You’ll also need some basic essentials to give the room humidifier a good cleaning, including clean towels, a soft-bristle brush, water solution with either (10% bleach -90% water) or (25% white vinegar and 75% water). To clean the room humidifier, you’ll want to concentrate on the water tank, filter and operating base of the device, but just about every other compartment can be cleaned, too. Deep Cleaning A Cool Mist Humidifier When you’re ready to clean a cool mist humidifier, make sure it’s unplugged from the electrical outlet. Remove the water tank and use either the white vinegar or bleach solution for a quick clean. For a deeper clean, you’ll want to soak the cool mist humidifier tank in the solution for at least 30 minutes to breakdown any mold or bacteria. Then with a soft-bristle brush, gently clear away any residue that’s still stuck. Once you’ve cleaned the entire cool mist humidifier, simply rinse thoroughly then wipe off the solution with a towel and dry before you use it again!
