Future Prep 101: How to Prepare Teens for Design Careers™ is a half-day seminar which exposes teens and their parents to multiple disciplines, including: architecture, interiors, graphic and environmental design, landscape architecture, fashion and sneaker design, automotive design, and industrial design. The goal is to encourage and assist in the development of the next generation of leaders and collaborative creative problem solvers. The seminar explains the design process, what tools designers use, and exactly what designers do for their communities. Students learn how to select a design program at the college/university level, and discover preparatory steps they can take while in high school. Future Prep 101 ™ creates an environment of participation by meeting students (and parents) where they are in terms of design knowledge, while posing questions about how they plan to use their ingenuity in the future. To attend, a student also must engage their parent(s), teacher(s), and/or guidance counselor. Teens who complete the workshop depart with an understanding that design impacts every moment of our lives, from signage and way finding, to architecture, the landscape of parks, everyday products we need and use, such as smart phones, etc. Future Prep 101 ™ travels to various communities, currently covering cities and towns in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Enclosed in this booklet you will see the success of our first two seasons. We hope to expand in New England in the coming years.
