Concept Art

“Mirage, a naturally-occurring optical phenomenon in which light

rays bend via refraction to produce a displaced image of distant objects or the sky. [1] The word comes from Latin mirari, meaning to “ to look at, to wonder.” [2] Naming after the natural phenomenon, Club Mira8e is a Virtual Reality project led by Vivian Tan and established together with Aixuan Li and Hsiu-Yu Lin. The three team members come from different backgrounds of statistical science, interior design and animation design. I am honored to have the opportunity to participate in this VR project and be responsible for the art concept design and architectural space design.

Concept Art: Exterior

I. Concept Inspired by a series of science fiction works about postmodern Futurism and Retro Futurism, wandering away from the boundary between reality and illusion, Mira8e is committed to creating a new visual sensory experience through space design by exploring the collision of different textures and the materials contrast between feminity and masculinity. At the beginning of the project, we want to call on climate change to create a utopia that survives the doomsday and create a strong contrast between indoor and outdoor space. After discussion, it is decided to leave the setting of the background to the users entering the space for judgment, so as to retain the maximum imagination of the space.

Concept Art

I. Concept This VR space not only serves as the art design presentation of our vision for the future, but also provides the service of interaction between online art exhibition and DJ music. These initial ideas to create our own world setting sprouted and expanded during the quarantine of Pandemic, which also responded to the recent challenge of Metaverse to traditional art exhibition.

II. Design Our space design combines the brutalism architecture in science fiction films, the socialist modernism in the Soviet era and contemporary minimalism, wandering between retro and future, making users lose the sense of specific timing and space.

III. Project Running There is no doubt that building a VR project requires programming knowledge and great handling of 3D software. In this process, I not only expanded my technical scope and began to learn Maya, Unity and other 3D software, but also learned some basis knowledge of programming. Moreover, in order to promote this project, we also carry out market research and prepare multi platform publicity. Our members cooperate with each other, show their strengths and learn from each other.
