COMMERCIAL ENVIRONMENTS In this advanced course, the design of an upscale, global, corporate interior reflects the comprehensive synthesis of problem identification, research, programming preliminary design, design development, and construction documents. Problem solving center on the creative and technical aspects involved in the universal design of commercial environments including space planning with code compliance, way-finding techniques, and specifying corporate furnishings, finishes and materials.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN In this senior level studio course, students develop a viable and visual solution for the project typically researched in Thesis I. Solutions incorporate environmentally sound, cost effective, and responsible design methods to influence an audience using creative delivery methods.

TALK ABOUT is a graphic’s design firm that showcases both function and style in its design and company. Its modern scheme is inspired by travel and architecture all over the world giving this space a fresh and memorable experience. The proposed design reflects their established success and daily needs of its creative staff. The sophisticated theme is complemented with vibrant splashes of color for their distinct graphic’s brand. TALK ABOUT is all about open spaces giving the artistic freedom to its employees and visitors. Upon entering the office, guests enter to the left of the elevators. A large reception area greets and serves a dual purpose as welcome area and an art gallery featuring the firm’s completed projects. The elegant design of TALK ABOUT is complemented with colored glass panels featuring calming blue and green hues. One of many visual interests is achieved by using exposed ceiling solutions in this space. Furniture used within this space is environmental friendly, highlighting many ergonomic features benefiting every employee’s well being. Recycled commercial carpets for the private offices provide not only added comfort but act as an acoustical barrier. Large windows provide a lot of daylight, cutting the energy costs within this large space. Also, all of the fixtures at this facility obtain WaterSense that reduces water waste. TALK ABOUT is all about modern workplace providing creative, fun and innovative ideas to its clients and staff.

1. All areas were adequately calculated giving the employees desired workspaces and are meeting adjacency requirements. 2. All hallways are a minimum of 5’ of width and all doorways in this space are at least 3’ wide making this design ADA accessible. 3. Flooring selections within this space serve a purpose of way-finding, utility and beauty.


SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

HEALTHY CHILDREN PEDIATRICS is designed with the rainforest in mind, focusing on its beautiful and rare animals. The overall color palette can be pulled from its species. Warm colors are seen throughout this space with added neutrals to give it some visual interest. The overall appearance has an inviting feel to embrace a positive, and happy environment.

A modern twist on an everyday travel facility serves individuals seeking a friendly, peaceful, healthy and relaxing place to stay and enjoy. The space offers anything from an indoor gym, medical services, beauty and pet salons, to healthy restaurant promoting local foods and farmers. MAGNET TRUCK STOP is a destination for travelers, conveniently located on one of the busiest interstate roads in the country in Gary, Indiana. Offering expanded amenities, in and out-of state truckers as well as the casual traveler, plan their trips with a break at this customer oriented location. Care for trucks is taken in the full-size trailer wash, while people refuel in the gourmet coffee bar, home-style buffet dinner or the 7-11. Amenities for the traveler is available in the extensive gym facilities inclusive of a yoga studio, hair and nail salon, private showers, and walk-in-dental and emergent care offices. Pets are also welcome into their grooming facilities. Additional services include a postal service, banking station, and game room. A monochromatic color palette embellishes the interior spaces of MAGNET TRUCK STOP allowing its users to feel welcome and relaxed during their visit. Access to daylight and other guiding principles promotes their overall well-being. A mixed open/closed floor plan allows for full functionality of the spaces within. MAGNET TRUCK STOP is designed with sustainability in mind. Energy saving features are incorporated into the space to help minimize the energy bills and reduce water consumption. Wind generators produce electricity and reduce emissions from fuel and carbon. Food vendors utilize local meat, dairy and produce whenever possible. Renewable, recyclable materials with low VOC are specified, and added to achieving a LEED certification building. The mission of MAGNET TRUCK STOP is to fulfill and satisfy every client’s needs. The goal is to make all travelers feel as comfortable as possible, with magnificent amenities that will make them feel at home! MAGNET TRUCK STOP is designed to show that the client is valued and happiness is a priority.

Special finishes included a variety of safety rubber flooring for durability, and easy clean ability along with recycled laminates and woods for easy everyday maintenance.

SPECIALTY This senior level studio course covers the physical and psychological factors that impact hospitality environments. Students are expected to graphically demonstrate original and viable solutions. Research on human factors, codes and lighting combined with product mix and multi-sensory aspects of design to influence perceived value to the customer.

COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN III Students successfully completing this course will be able to use Computer-Aided Design software to assist them in their three-dimensional project development. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the integration of computer technology in the design process and an introduction to BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology.

DETAILING This senior level studio is a study of the materials and fabrication techniques used in the design and construction of interiors and how these details are communicated three-dimensionally and in construction documents. Content includes interior construction detailing of ceilings, wall, flooring and millwork. Project solutions will consider the integration of buildings technology such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other relevant systems.

Circus night club was inspired by Andy Warhol’s colorful pop art era. Vibrant colors and patterns are brought into this night life scene resembling its fun and fresh atmosphere.

This grand space features two floors with two full bars, private VIP area, stage and two separate dance areas. Formal dining areas have also been incorporated into this design.

RESIDENTIAL


KITCHEN & BATH DESIGN This course challenges students to use space planning design requirements to create universal and accessible designs. Construction, electrical and basic plumbing are taught with emphasis on these applications within residential kitchen and baths. Industry relevant nomenclature and product information are used to create technical documents and custom aesthetic solutions.

ADVANCED RESIDENTIAL This senior elective studio covers the total process of residential design from concept development through two and three-dimensional presentations. Building codes, covenants, and restrictions create the guidelines for solutions; while knowledge of sustainable practices, residential business practice, construction methods, materials and custom interior architectural details are applied.

HISTORY III This studio presents an in-depth study of the architecture and furniture developments of several major and non-western cultures. Religious, philosophical and social beliefs and customs are emphasized while construction methods, building materials, motifs, fabrics, and decorative arts are explored. Students work within teams to present their research on Middle Eastern, Asian, African, Mesoamerican, and North American cultures. Projects include the development of furniture and accessory designs created through the fusion of world styles.

INTERNSHIP Internship is a monitored program for senior-level students to work part-time within the interior design industry. Field experience is an opportunity for students to apply and advance their knowledge, skills and professionalism under the supervision of a qualified mentor.

DESIGN SOLUTIONS: The overall goal of the design and the client’s needs was met by traffic flow requirements, expanding the space and creating a functional contemporary design.

This beautiful centrally located loft apartment in Chicago Illinois has been newly and adequately remodeled to fit this multifunctional household needs and busy, professional lifestyles. The space is also designed to embrace a social and functional kitchen environment to accommodate a professional cook and large gatherings. This modern loft apartment has ample social and private zones while still allowing an open flow through this open-concept floor plan. Contemporary, simple yet sophisticated furnishings accentuate the beauty of this old building. The use of eco-friendly materials add to the overall entertainment theme and feel. Colors are mainly muted with splashes of bright tones. Large windows provide lots of natural light throughout the day making this space energy efficient at the same time. The exposed structure and wood is been retained in this loft as per client’s request, adding even more beauty to this space throughout. The HARPER RESIDENCE is a refuge from their everyday busy lifestyles. Upon entering the space, one achieves a peaceful feeling and taste of suitable design. Variety of comfortable furniture, different materials, colors and textures makes the resident feel a sense of belonging.
