How to know if you Suffer from Glaucoma? Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that cause optic nerve damage. It is believed to be one of the most common causes of irreversible blindness in patients. It occurs when the amount of pressure in the eyeball is increased beyond what is normal.

1. Blurred vision :The condition causes a patient to be in able to see things clearly and with fine details. A patient who suffers from blurry vision is not able to see things sharply. It can usually be corrected with prescription lenses. But blurred vision in itself is not a sign of glaucoma. It is only considered a symptom if it occurs with a combination of other symptoms. 2. Nausea and vomiting: The constant urge to vomit and nausea is a sign that one is suffering from glaucoma. Pressure in the patient’s eyes can cause dizziness which


results in nausea and the constant feeling of one’s stomach being overturned. It may also cause dehydration in the body which worsens the condition. If you suffer from nausea and vomiting which is accompanied by headaches you should visit your doctor immediately. 3. Red eyes: Redness in the eyes occurs when the blood vessels which are present inside the eye swell making the sclera which is the part of the eye turn red. Sometimes redness in the eyes is not a serious condition as it can be caused by sun, dust or allergies. But there are times when it is a sign of infection in the patient’s eye. In such a case it will be accompanied by severe pain. If you are suffering from glaucoma, the redness in the eyes is caused due to the pressure on the eye. A patient suffering from these symptoms must undergo glaucoma treatment immediately. 4. Severe eye pain: Patients suffering from such eye pain find it intolerable to deal with. It usually feels like someone is squeezing your eyes strongly. If you suffer from severe such a severe case of eye pain which is accompanied by loss of vision you may be suffering from glaucoma and must undergo treatment immediately. 5. Seeing light halos: Light is extremely important component of a patient’s viewing process. Light halos are spheres of light surrounding the source of light which interfere with a patient’s vision. It is believed that halos are a normal response to bright light but if it is accompanied with the above symptoms you need to undergo glaucoma treatment immediately.

If a patient is diagnosed with glaucoma, you must set a schedule of examinations with the doctor to check the progress of the glaucoma treatment underway.
