The Selecon range of stage lighting from New Zealand exploits the benefits of extrusion and die casting to produce a flowing integrated form. These lanterns are easy to handle and simple to focus and represent excellent value.
The Selecon range features a micro-switch which is a safety cut out that cuts off the power to the lamp when the lamphouse is opened to change the lamp. The lantern should still be unplugged from the mains before attempting to change the lamp, however this micro-switch is an extra safety device. Many alternative lanterns are supplied without this safety cut out and as such must be marked for professional use only and should only be used in schools where professional technicians would change the lamps. The Selecon range with the microswitch means that changing a lamp is safe for all (assuming correct supervision with regards to access). The Acclaim Axial is a compact, high performance, cool beam ellipsoidal profile with the power and precise beam control necessary for front stage lighting from auditorium positions and pattern image projections. The increased output of the latest in compact filament lamps, the efficiency of Axial reflector systems and Selecon’s custom optical design along with versatility of the variable beam angle make the Acclaim Axial Zoomspot the choice for the smaller to mid size stage. The beam of the Acclaim Axial is easily shaped using the shutters with their generous size handles. The beam distribution is simply altered from peak to flat using the rear planetary gear. The two interchangeable zoom optical ranges provide for both longer throws from the auditorium to stage lighting positions (18°- 34°) and shorter over stage positions (24°-44°). Lamp is a GKV 600W.

LED LIGHTING LED PARCANS LED multi colour changing parcans are now a real economic alternative to traditional lighting. LED Parcans are ideal for use on stage as one of their most attractive features is that they produce almost no heat. This means they are very safe to use and have very low power consumption, overall this is about 5% of a conventional lantern. LED Par 64 High Output
The LED life span is also far greater than a standard lamp at around 75,000 hours (that equates 20 years at 10 hours a day). These features make running costs exceptionally low. LED Parcans which do not require dimmers or colour filters, are ideal for creating stunning colour washes and backgrounds, a large selection of colours can be created using the RGB control and a standard or dedicated DMX lighting desk / controller. The Parcans also have internal controls, allowing them to be used as multi colour changing stand alone lights.

ZERO 88 JUGGLER LIGHTING CONTROL DESK
Manual lighting control with timed crossfades and sequence functions. The Juggler provides manual lighting control for the smaller stage, offering the perfect solution to uncomplicated lighting plots. The Juggler is a two preset, 12 channel desk with a wide mode feature that allows 24 channel operation. Channel faders are set in a conventional two preset layout for easy crossfading. Each preset has its own fade time control allowing smooth fades to be achieved over periods as long as 5 minutes. All crossfades are true dipless. This ability to hold constant lighting levels and varying fade times allows sophisticated lighting plots to be replayed simply and accurately. The Juggler has channel flash buttons enabling the creation of lively lighting effects. These can be disabled by the flash on/off switch to prevent accidental use. The Juggler also offers a sequence feature allowing users to program chases or playback stacks. Up to 12 sequences of 99 steps can be recorded on the desk. (Only 1 of the 12 sequences may be output at any given time). Sequences can be played back using the auto function with the ability to set the chase time using the speed pot. Sequences can also be stepped through manually. In manual mode the time pot used for the A/B faders can be used to set the fade time between steps. To allow seamless integration of a chase into a look, there is a sequence master. Sequence steps can contain single or multiple channels.

Feature packed 24 and 48 channel memory consoles for the mid level user. It offers direct control of up to 48 channels of DMX either using submasters or a traditional theatre playback stack. 12 auxiliary buttons are provided which can be used to trigger DMX devices such as scrollers, smoke machines or strobes. A monitor port is standard on the Jester. Channel, cuestack and submaster data can all be viewed using a monitor. An onboard LCD screen also provides the user with all information needed to operate the console allowing it to be used without a monitor. A USB port allows users to back-up shows that have been recorded on the Jester. A DMX in option allows the Jester to be used as an economical back-up console for other desks. It is possible to snap shot a full 512 channels of DMX into submasters or the memory stack. The Jester has three modes, allowing it to operate as simple two scene preset desk through to a fully functional memory console. In playback mode the user has full access to all the channels on the console. This allows live changes to be made to specials instantly. Midi notes can be used to trigger channels or submasters. A sound to light jack allows for chases to be sequenced to music. Chases can be recorded into the memory stack or directly into submasters. The Jester provides users with a powerful set of programming and playback tools in an easy to use and economical lighting console.

The 15A round pin connector is now the most common type of plug and socket used for stage lighting. Both have plastic bodies with heavy duty rubber covers. The 5A round pin connector is commonly found on older stage lighting installations. These are no longer fitted to new installations and several manufacturers have stopped manufacturing the 5A plug and socket. The 5A plug and socket now supplied by AJS have heavy duty plastic body and cover. FABRICS
TYPES OF MATERIAL Velour A cotton fabric with a deep pile mainly used for Main House Tabs. Available in many colours DFR or NDFR. Normally supplied un-lined (for cheapness) or lined with black Bolton twill or ivory sateen for greater opacity. Wool Serge A very dense fabric, supplied in black (IFR). The best choice for use as a general stage dressing and masking (Number Ones, Tabs, Legs, Borders etc). With very good blackout and good sound-deadening properties, it is the strongest of the curtaining materials and the least likely to rip, tear, snag or to be affected by damp. Creases drop out very quickly. Coloured Wool Serge is also available, but prices vary. Please contact our sales team for details. Dimout Made from Acrylic/Polyester. Although this does not have a pile it is suitable for the Main House Tabs as well as Half Tabs, Borders and Legs. Available in many colours, inherently flame-retardant. Has an excellent “dim-out” property.
Bolton Twill A cotton fabric cheaper than velour. Ideal for half Tabs, Borders, Legs etc. Available in Black, Grey and White NDFR AND DFR. Also available in a range of DFR colours. Sharkstooth Gauze A cotton fabric often used for “transformation scenes”. When only the front is lit it appears opaque, but when the set behind is lit and the front light is reduced it will appear transparent. Can be painted on. White, grey or Black NDFR. Cotton Scenic Canvas A linen fabric available NDFR in unbleached (natural brown colour), bleached white or dyed pastel blue. Used for backcloths, covering scenery or cyclorama. Cotton Calico An off-white NDFR sheeting, cheaper than canvas and often used for economy.
TYPES OF FLAME RETARDANCY NDFR Non-Durable flame-retardant - Will require treatment after each cleaning or after a number of years depending on climate conditions. DFR Durable Flame-Retardant - Will withstand a number of cleanings. IFR Inherently Flame-Retardant - Fabric used is naturally flame retardant.

Rosco Supersat Paint Is a unique acrylic paint, packaged in concentrated form. It is designed to be diluted with water, at least 1:1 and as much as 15:1. With such tremendous extendibility, Supersaturated offers the widest range of effects possible while being extremely economical to use. On porous and non-porous surfaces, Supersaturated achieves vibrant, opaque colour fields. It also creates bright, translucent washes where the colour remains as intense as aniline dyes, without the health hazards associated with dyes. Supersaturated Rosco paint is formulated with a unique binder that gives it superior adhesion, durability, and screens and dance floors. It can also be used as a tint for other paints, binders and coatings. Perfect for both interior and exterior projects. The neutral base is an acrylic binder with no pigment. Use to help adhesion with diluted Supersat. Please note that the colour chips shown are a representation only and colours may vary. Rosco Supersat Concentrated Base Paint
Rosco white base is a versatile, non-reflective, white vinyl acrylic paint. Used for priming, it will adhere to virtually any surface. As a tinting medium it will increase the opacity of Supersat colours and add acrylic properties to dry pigment and casein. White base can also be used as a binder for newspaper or sawdust to produce an interesting 3D texture. Rosco Velour base is an intense matt black generally used with two parts water to one part paint for opaque coverage. Rosco Neutral Base Paint is an acrylic binder with no pigment. stage sound INTERCOM The ring intercom is a wired system of inter-communication between people backstage where they need to communicate with each other as a group. The Tecpro communication system is a well established, cost effective system with a large variety of possible equipment configurations to suit user requirements. The basis of the ring system is that any number of places required to communicate, either in one direction or two, are connected, one to the next, to the next and so on, with a single cable. This cable is a simple two core screened microphone cable, and carries power, audio signals and various control and indicator signals all in one. At each place on this ring of cable an “outstation” is connected. An outstation may connect to a headset or contain a loudspeaker with or without a microphone. At some point on the ring, a power supply is connected, capable of supporting the number of outstations in use. This may be combined with a communication unit and will often support more than one ring and talk to them individually or collectively. This is generally known as a master or main station.
TECPRO TecPro Series 2 Power Supplies provide 24V DC to power small to medium sized intercom systems while terminating the audio lines with the correct impedance, enabling full duplex (simultaneous, two way) conversations to take place over extended cable runs. The 2A supply is capable of driving up to 45 BP511 beltpacks or 9 Tecpro loudspeaker outstations and is protected by a compact, robust, extruded aluminium case designed to withstand the rigours of the live events environment. They are fully compatible with older Tecpro designs. The TecPro BP511 Single circuit beltpack allows the user to communicate on a single ‘party line’. A volume control adjusts the level in the headphones, the ‘Mic’ switch lets the user speak to the circuit. To catch the attention of operators who have removed their beltpack and headset, a call alert signal is sent by pressing the ‘Call’ button to trigger the call lights on all user stations. When a call alert signal is received, the ‘Call’ button and the ‘Mic’ buttons flash brightly to attract attention, red and green respectively. The TecPro range includes a new generation of high performance headsets specifically designed for communications use. They are a very robust construction and feature a noise cancelling microphone and have soft comfortable cushions on the earpiece. The system is linked together using industry standard 3 pin XLR microphone cables.

The Variable Angle Pod is for use with all Le Maitre firing systems and Pyroflash Glitter, Streamer, Confetti and Chinese Confetti cartridges. The angle of projection can be adjusted in 15 degree steps between vertical and horizontal. It is supplied with 3-pin bulgin connections. It is IMPERATIVE to use a fixing clamp with the Variable Angle Pod to hold all the new sized cartridges. This is to prevent the cartridges from falling or flying out of the Pod. AJS’s very experienced design team has many years of experience specialising in the education market. They have carried out design work for hundreds of schools and colleges of all sizes all across the county. By drawing upon their extensive industry experience, AJS specify only carefully selected equipment sourced from reputable, well known specialist manufactures, best suited to the rigors and demands of the educational environment. By utilising their own in house design and drawing facility, AJS is able to provide bespoke detailed drawings and structural load calculations. Supply Stage lighting systems should be periodically inspected and tested for electrical safety. The “Electricity at Work Regulations 1989” state that all electrical systems must be sufficiently maintained in order to be safe. The only way to ensure electrical systems meet this requirement is to periodically perform inspection and testing. Using their own in house qualified electricians, AJS can carry out a full electrical test of all the stage lighting sockets, wiring, mains supplies, RCD’s and the dimmers. They also carry a visual inspection and load test of the lighting bar fixings and if required any curtain track fixings. It is a legal requirement that all lanterns and other portable equipment undergo a portable appliance test (PAT). The recommended frequency of this is every 12 months.
