Calvià activates its Plan to improve senior citizen’s quality of life

Demographic change is a glo bal reality. Our society is also in the process of change, it is ageing. In 1998 the population over 65 years of age in Cal vià represented 7.75%, while in 2022 it represented 16.5%, more than double.

Calvià is already preparing a Plan at local level to try to res pond to this important cha llenge, assuming that our po pulation is growing older, and consequently the needs of the population are therefore chan ging. For this reason, public administrations and society as a whole must plan the most humane and inclusive respon se possible, reflecting the wide diversity of this reality both in society in general and in older people in particular.

To this end, the Town Hall has prepared a strategic tool with the participation of Calvià senior citizens: the I Calvià Strategic Plan for Ageing and De- mographic Change 2022-2025. The Plan, which was initially approved in the municipal Plenary Session last November, has three main points and 66 actions to be carried out between now and 2025. The first main point is the right to age in Calvià and to enjoy the physical environment; a second main point is centered on active ageing and on community participation with the social inclusion of senior citizens.

The third and last focuses on the review of municipal public services in order to offer good support and comprehensive care to those who are going through this stage of life.
