PUBLIC PRODUCTION Human movements has inspired architectural design all the time. Within this inspiration, architecture has created choreography in space or urban space. Choreography in the city has brought out public space identity which is the common value of locals. Due to the unique way of life of each city, the programs in this project based on the activities of the locals in public spaces around the project area. The site is located in Hamamyolu Street which is primary trade site in EskiĹ&#x;ehir

and next to Porsuk River. The riverside is actively involved in recreational activities. On the other hand, Hamamyolu Street is at the forefront of trade and manufacturing works. Within the scope of the project, the architectural program was formed from the intersection of these two situations. This area is the junction point of social activities and manufacturing works. The public production area, in which the locals produces new products by reusing recycling products, has been proposed.

SAKARILICA VALLEY SakarÄąlÄąca Valley is located 30 km away from the city center and has a natural environment. Within the scope of the studio, we were asked to design a habitation for 300 people living in this area. In this project, the minimalist society of 300 people who live far from urban life was proposed. It is a society model that supplies the minimum needs of daily life and where people have strong relations with each other. The common areas of this society are the most important point.

The design strategy consists of patchwork where people are more likely to meet. In the second storey building models, the upper floors are designed as accommodation, the lower floors are designed as common areas, workshops, and social spaces. In the first step, a living unit with an inner courtyard was created and then integrated with each other with regard to level differences of the terrain. The heights and the landscape are shaped with the levels of terrain.

Construction Process 1

All the structures in this project is made with wood and rammed earth. It is easy to reach these natural material in SakarÄąlÄąca Valley. Wood is used for structural system and rammed earth is for facades. Wood provides strength for the structures and rammed earth provides good insulation and air conditioning. Thus, structures that are compatible with climate and environment is produced.

MenekĹ&#x;e Match Factory Industrial areas have remained within the city as the city grows gradually. Since industrial areas were initially constructed in isolation from the city, this has caused industrial areas to be unable to connect with the city. Post-industrial areas cannot serve both industrial and urban areas. Rather than demolishing these areas, re-functionalizing them in the city will strengthen the concepts such as belonging and memory in the region. At the same time, parks within the city

are the activity points that strengthen the social fiction in the city. The spaces created by post-industrial areas coming together with parks carry potentials both socio-cultural and ecological. In this way, post-industrial parks enable both the industrial areas which are idle to be re-functionalized and activated within the city, while at the same time creating a social space where the region feels belonging.

MENEKĹžE MATCH FACTORY

The site is located nearby the Sea of Marmara in Kucukcekmece, Istanbul. The match factory which is in the site has established by the Ottoman Match Incorporated Company at the beginning of 19. Century. The factory has lost its function at the present time. Also, Kucukcekmece is located on important transportation routes such as railway, coastal road and airport and is an important focal point at the upper scale. Although the project area is located in public use areas such as residential area, beach, park, etc and so close to primary transportation paths and has manufacturing culture and identity of Küçükçekmece, has occupied like dead space which can’t get involved to daily urban life.

The researches have been developed with the question that ‘’How to combine industrial areas with public spaces?’’ in this project when approaching the design. A field has been proposed in which public space will appeal all the segment of the society within the recently changing socio-economic structure. Nowadays, the potential of the economic, ecological and social benefits offered by the open and green areas to the city is very high. The re-use of post-industrial areas through creative design strategies has a greater value in terms of responding to the proposition for the restoration of damaged areas of ecological zones, in addition to the recognized overall benefits of urban green. In the concept stage of the design, post-industrial re-functionalization and the reusing of the space by activating the space has been requested.

MENEKŞE MATCH FACTORY

SITE PLAN As a result of the determined activities, a regenerative activity center has been designed for the memories and ecology that gives the feeling of belonging to the environment and even the district. Reuse, production, and recycling occupy an important place in the space-activity relationship that will make active the area. Transforming these spaces to contain human activities rather than mechanical processes is actually a kind of disorientation process. In this process, the essence of the factory was spread over the area but the activities were wanted to be human-oriented. The spaces that are constructed by taking advantage of the contradictions between post-industrialism and public accessible public parks emerge as a result of a dialectical design systematic. While the factory is in the more predictable standards, the tension between the randomness of the parks has been used and the effect of this tension has been utilized at the activation points.

IZNIK COMMUNITY CENTER Lake Iznik is inland with the city. Due to its location, it is an advantage that easies to reach, but it is a disadvantage to using it unconsciously. The native people that labor agriculture procures the water requirements by the lake for their gardens. At the same time, wastes have been discarded unconsciously to the lake. Water Education and Soil Education have been recommended for the city to have conscious lake use. The study is to encourage water conservation, enhance the water resources management on community-wide. The fortification wall and decumanus in the project area have been taken as reference informing the main axes of the com-

munity center. The masses are placed in the North-South direction in the same direction as the continuous pedestrian and vehicle road. The Community Center entrance which cuts this horizontal in the vertical direction forms a square on the north side of the Community Center. Mass in +4.00 level creates eave for the entrance of Community Center. The visual and physical continuity of the pedestrian walkway with the square have provided. The Community Center consisting of two parts is aimed to be used and experienced by pulling a little from the north side. In the southern part, it is envisaged to be used as a public space within the building.
