Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Omega Omega Chapter in partnership with the Ivy Heritage Foundation of Irmo, Inc., is pleased to announce our 5th biennial community service event, the “Still Standing Women’s Health Empowerment Luncheon”. Still Standing is an event used to bring awareness to health and societal issues that negatively affect women. In past years we have served as a platform for HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Domestic Violence, and Mental Health. This year’s “Still Standing” event will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Capital City Club in Columbia, SC and will focus on Stroke. According to the National Stroke Association, Stroke is the third leading cause of death for women.  DHEC reported that South Carolina had the fifth highest stroke death rate in the nation in 2012 and is among a group of southeastern states with high stroke death rates that is referred to as the “Stroke Belt.” 

Still Standing will serve as a platform for stroke experts and stroke survivors to open the eyes of the community to the impact of stroke. Professional women with diverse backgrounds, who are leaders within their families and their communities, attend Still Standing. We use their influence to connect with and advocate for those who have been directly impacted by stroke. They will depart with the knowledge to prevent and recognize stroke, possibly saving their lives and the lives of those who they touch in their communities. 44
