1. ANALYSIS OF SITE CONDITIONS (PARK, BRIDGE, LAKE, PUBLIC SERVICE BUILDING)

EVOLUTION THAT EVERYDAY ARCHITECTURE UNDERGOES

INTERACTION BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT ORGANISMS LIVING IN CLOSE PHYSICAL ASSOCIATION,TYPICALLY TO THE ADVANTAGE OF BOTH

ADDITION OF A VORONOIDAL CLADDING WHICH SERVES AS A SYMBIOTE TO THE MODIFIED ARCH (ARCHES WITH SYMBIOTE)

SYMBIOSIS IS DEFINED AS AN INTERACTION BETWEEN TWO ORGANISMS LIVING IN CLOSE PHYSICAL ASSOCIATION, USUALLY TO THE ADVANTAGE OF BOTH. THIS CONCEPT REVOLVES AROUND THE GROWING CHANGES THAT STRUCTURES OF HERITAGE UNDERGO AS A CONSEQUENCE OF EVOLVING ARCHITECTURAL TRENDS. THE CONCEPT COMPRISES OF TWO MAIN COMPONENTS WHICH INCLUDES A BASIC STRUCTURE OF HERITAGE CLADDED WITH A SYMBIOTE. THE SYMBIOTE REPRESENTS THE INEVITABLE CHARACTER OF CHANGE THAT IS GRADUALLY CONSUMING AND INFLUENCING PRIMITIVE ARCHITECTURAL STYLES.

TRADITIONAL ARCHES ARE MODIFIED STRUCTURALLY TO PERMIT LIGHT FROM THE OPENINGS ON THE TOP. THE ELONGATED ARCHES ALLOW FOR MORE VIEWS AND ADDS TO THE AESTHETICS OF THE BUILDING. THE ARCHES HAVE A GROWING CODEPENDENT SYMBIOTIC STRUCTURE WHICH HELPS MAINTAIN CLEAN AIR AND AESTHETICAL INTEGRITY. THE ENTIRE MASS CIRCULATES AROUND A CENTRAL COURTYARD FROM WHERE CONNECTING SPACES EVOLVE.

STRATEGIES

THE SITE CONSISTS OF INFORMAL PARKING SPACE WHICH CAN BE CONVERTED INTO A LANDSCAPE FEATURE WHICH IS INTEGRATED WITH PARKING LOTS.

THE INTRODUCTION OF LOCKERS CAN HELP THE SHOPPERS STORE THEIR SHOPPING BAGS SINCE THERE ARE NO RESTING SPOTS DESIGNATED ALONG THE ENTIRE STREET STREET FURNITURES TO BE INSTALLED SO THAT THE USERS CAN STOP AND REST.

THE EXISTING ATM AND TELEPHONE BOOTHS TO BE RENOVATED AND REDESIGNED.

A CHANGE IN PAVEMENT DESIGN TO DENOTE ENTERTAINMENT FEATURES TO ADD ADDITIONAL CHARACTER TO THE STREET. TO INTRODUCE STREET WALLS AND ART INSTALATIONS WHICH CAN ACT AS SHADING STRUCTURES AND CAN BE REMOVED AFTER A DURATION OF TIME FOR NEW ART INSTALLATIONS.

MODELLED ELEMENTSA SEATING CUBICLE CREATED FOR THE PASSENGERS WAITING FOR THE TRAM. MOREOVER, THE SPACE HAS BEEN CONVERTED INTO AN ENTERTAINMENT SPACE WHICH CAN BE UTILISED BY PERFORMERS. THE SPACE HAS ALSO BEEN GIVEN INIDIVDUAL SEATING STRUCTURES FOR THEVIEWERS. BICYCLE RACKS HAVE BEEN SET UP TO ENCOURAGE A VEHICULE FREE ZONE. 2 1 THE FLOORS HAVE BEEN DIFFERENTIATED WITH GRAFFITI DENOTING DIFFERENT ACTIVITY SPACES TO ENLIVEN THE SPACE. LANDSCAPE FEATRES HAVE BEEN PROVIDED TO BUFFER THE HUMAN TRAFFIC NOISE AND TO CREATE A SENSE OF CALM IN THE ENVIRONMENT. MOREOVER, LOCKERS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED FOR THE SHOPPERS WALKING GREAT DISTANCES. AKHIL SATHYAN PLOT VIEWSPLOT OF INTEREST POTENTIAL AREAS FOR RENOVATION SITE WITH SELECTED PLOT THE SITE IS LOCATED ON ONE OF THE MAJOR CENTRAL NODES OF ISTIKLAL STREET. THE SITE BEING POSITIONED AT THE CENTRE OF THE PEDESTRIANISED SHOPPING PLAZA OPENS UP POSSIBILITIIES FOR A VARIETY OF STREET ACTIVITIES. THE STREET AS OF NOW IS DEVOID OF STREET FURNITURES, RESTING SPOTS AND OPEN GREEN SPACES. THE USERS OF THE STREET HAVE TO WALK LONG DISTANCES WITHOUT RESTING SPOTS, CARRYING THEIR SHOPPING BAGS WITHOUT A BREAK. MOREOVER THE CHOSEN SITE CAN ALSO FLOURISH AS AN ACTIVITY HUB WITH SEATINGS AROUND ITS CIRCUMFERENCE INTEGRATED WITH LANDSCAPE. ANALYSIS

Illuminated Architecture Of Dubai

Light although being an intangible element of design plays a very important role in an architec tural space. It can be used to guide people through spaces, evoke feelings in them and also change the perception of space. Light combined with colour , together can be used to create striking visuals and a comfortable environment. The typology chosen for this thesis is Museum and it helps show how light can be used to alter user movement, experience and create an envi ronment where one can navigate the space by ease.
